Hmmmm. Love the first three albums by this band and like the 4th. Interesting comp but the new material mixed in with the old might be jarring.
I don't own anything by them, but I've always been curious. I'm not really a "punk" guy yet there are exceptions. Is this a chronological comp? Seems like that would be important for me.

It's not chronological. From the looks of it it's a big mix of things, all over the place.
If you're not a big punk fan then I would avoid their first album, Inflammable Material. I consider it one of the best punk albums of all time, but it's very loud and abrasive. The whole thing is in your face.
The third album, Go For It, is more of a pop punk record, with lots of reggae influences. Also a great record. It may be more your speed.
There's also a two cd singles collection covering the first 4 albums (in chronological order) and some very cool single only r eleases.
Are you interested in them because of the Big Country-Scottish-Irish Rock thing?

Nope, they're just one of those bands I've read about over the years that I thought I might like. Even though I'm not much of a punk fan, I do make some exceptions, and usually it's bands with good melodies. I'm under the impression that SLF were melodic. Would you agree?

and she was...
Go find "All the Best", a 2 cd comp from 1983. It's chronological. A very good place to start. After that, I agree with THT ," Go For It" is their best album, followed by "Hanx" (a great live record, lots of reggae touches), their first two "punk" records, and then "Now Then...". Avoid most everything after the reformation (late 80's - lots of live albums, comps and mediocre records). The original stuff is very good punk/rock/pop/reggae. Not as poppy as The Ramones or The Undertones (think The Clash meet The Ruts), but still one of my touchstones from that era. Go For It.

Yes, All The Best is the comp I was thinking of as well. I just couldn't think of the title. That's the first thing I bought by them, on record, back in 1984 or 1985 I think. It might be the place to start.

Thanks for letting me know about the "All The Best" comp. Looks like it can be found at a decent price. Here's a link for anyone checking out this thread & thinking about buying it instead of the new comp: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000002R0C/?tag=imwan-20
