I agree Geff, these prices are fantastic. I'll be getting quite afew.
By the way, who is Runrig? Never heard of them.

They're a Celtic rock group from Scotland. Been around since the '70s, but most of their commercial success was in the '80s and '90s, for example this track from their first major label album in 1987:
EMI is having a fire sale, needing to raise the cash quickly I imagine. Well, its to our advantage.

It's a shame Amazon doesn't allow sellers to combine shipping. One of the few things ebay does better than Amazon, though ebay like usual is starting to copy Amazon; combined shipping is still possible, but ebay is making it more & more difficult.
I suspect that part of the reason is that both take a percentage of the shipping fee from the seller.

Must be the reason they can price the CD's so low to start with. The shipping helps offset. But it would be fantastic if they can come to a shipping price that serves everyone's needs (and our savings).

Unreal prices on these! I bit on the Suzi Quatro as i have nothing by her & other artists I like seem to regard her highly.
Does anyone know if anything on the Gary Moore is rare or exclusive?
If there is anyone on this board who is unfamiliar with Roxy Music, for $3.64 that comp wouldn't be a bad place to start.
Geff, there are some single versions on here that you don't normally see on his comps. This is also mostly his blues stuff while I believe you prefer his rock stuff. I prefer his blues stuff but recently have been getting into his rock stuff.

There are two essential Falco songs, and that CD doesn't have either of them. Maybe don't give your compilation that title if you're not the artist's primary label, concept-cheapeners.

I didn't even notice there was a Robert Palmer one. What label does one typically associate with him? Probably Island. On this EMI comp, half the story's missing. EMI is just shitting out compilations, calling them Essential, and co-opting Sony's combination of striking B/W portrait and brightly-colored lettering. At least, for the most part, Sony either backs off or lets you know if there's something missing (they seriously dropped the ball with the Neil Diamond one, but their Allman Brothers comp is called "The Essential Allman Brothers: The Columbia Years" or something).

I got the Quatro today. It's from EMI Germany. Bare bones packaging, no liner notes, no credit to the mastering engineer, no notes as to what song is from what album.
I haven't played it yet, so can't comment yet on the sound.
My guess: EMI Europe has been farming out these sort of compilations to the Netherlands co Disky for years (kind of like Universal's relationship with Spectrum & Karrussell). I'm guessing EMI decided to pull Disky's license & do it themselves.

Threw on the Quatro & have played a few songs. keeping in mind that I have no comparison to go by: on my best pc system, it's LOUD, a little bright, & there's some distortion & on the first track I heard some tape drop out. As I'm unfamiliar with the originals, other than the obviously compressed mastering, not sure if this was badly recorded or really badly mastered.
Musically, I can see why I never cared about her. Mediocre teen age power pop with mediocre song writing to my ears so far. Just hit "Mama's Boy" It's a bit better than the 1st 4 tracks.
The Runaways movie said they were strongly influenced by "Can The Can". I don't get it, but than the Runaways (apparently) like Quatro were much more interesting image wise than musically.
Doubt if I'll be keeping this one.

You obviously weren't 8 in 1973 in England. Suzi Q, Sweet, Mud (and Smokie later). ChinniChap goodness on Top Of The Pops every week! That's right, that's right, that's right, that's right......

Anybody who doesn't have any Crowded House in their collection would be well advised to invest $3.48 on that disc. It is packed with exquisite songwriting and performances to match.

Can The Can was always a bit fuzzy sounding however you still can get new The Wild One-The Greatest Hits compiled by Chris White and released in 1990 (catalogue no CDP 7 93986-2) before this silly stuff started with level jacking up and crazy EQ choices . I've just got a copy as it was only 3.99 plus shipping. Chris also compiled the rather good sounding Let's Have a Party - The best of Mud cd in the series on CDP 7 93984-2.
