I only know the lone hit "So You Ran" which was a great song. I'd imagine this is pure 80's AOR. The notes section here from Amazon makes no sense as it seems to include notes on the Boston debut album. Of course, you had ex and future members of Boston in Orion The Hunter, who if I remember, opened for Aerrosmith's disasterous reunion tour in 1984.

This was previously reissued on CD by Razor & Tie... I don't think it was a snazzy 24 bit remaster, and it certainly didn't have 3500 words of liner notes, but it sounds pretty darn good - sonically Orion the Hunter effectively bridges the gap between "Don't Look Back" and "Third Stage", only with less memorable songwriting.

I do believe the Razor & Tie CD was remastered by Steve Hoffman.

Jimbo is correct. The credits on the Razor & Tie reissue say, "Mastered by Steve Hoffman at Location Recording Services".

Groovy... so it is. Y'know, not being a total audiophile, I have always been more aware of SH from mentions of him on this board - not so much from actually seeing his name in credits of my CDs. I have another Razor & Tie reissue (one a treasure dearly) of Kenny Rogers's "Gideon" album, and it turns out he did that one too. Who knew?
I'm more of a packaging/notes kinda guy when it comes to reissues, and Razor & Tie reissues are pretty barebones in that respect - I always assumed that the mastering was probably cheaply done as well. I still thought the CDs sounded great (that "Gideon" CD makes me sooooo happy), but because I'm not an audiophile, I never really trust my judgment of how CDs sound. There are a lot of remasters that I think sound great that I hear actual audiophiles trashing for their "brightness" or "eq" or whatever. I just like the music.
Seeing this thread today made me dig out my Orion the Hunter CD for the first time probably since I bought it used last year (the receipt was still tucked in the jewelcase <grin>) and it was better than I remembered. More synthesizers than Tom Scholz could have stomached on a Boston album, but still the kind of album Boston might have released in 1984 - soaring vocals, big guitar heroics, anthemic power ballads, yada yada yada.

I have the original CD pressed in Japan for the U.S. as part of my first pressing collection. Can't say I've listened to it, though!

I never got the Orion The Hunter album, but I did buy the "So You Ran" single. I wasn't as much of a fan of Fran Cosmo's voice, at least compared to Brad Delp, but I always like Barry Goudreau's guitar playing (his solo album was a favorite back in the day). Didn't realize Michael DeRosier was the drummer. Always liked his playing with Heart. I may have to consider getting this, when the price is right.

This is a good album. A splinter Boston group in a way I have the Steve Hoffman disc but ordered this as well. I already have the Barry Goudreau's solo disc remastered by Rock Candy and was very happy with it so I have the same expectations here.

Received my Rock Candy edition of "Orion-The Hunter" featuring Fran Cosmo and Brad Delp. Barry Goudreau produced and co-wrote all but one track. Interesting liner notes in that Brad Delp was kept more in the background on this compared to Barry's solo album. Seemed he wanted to step away from the Boston sound but as they say, an apple doesn't fall to far from it's tree.
Either case looking forward to hearing this, this weekend! Rick A.
