I'm guessing this will be a part of the ongoing Complete Columbia albums series, but for right now, it looks like a UK release only.

Additional information from Sony (via the Leonard Cohen forum):

There are 11 CDs – all of which have been remastered except for the ones that were recently remastered in 2007. The albums are packaged in “wallets” so that they resemble mini-LPs and there is a booklet included in the box.

To confirm the albums included are:

Songs of Leonard Cohen
Songs from a Room
Songs of Love and Hate
New Skin for the Old Ceremony
Death of a Ladies’ Man
Recent Songs
Various Positions
I’m Your Man
The Future
Ten New Songs
Dear Heather

Damn, I think I'd go for one of those if it ever gets to a reduced deal a la the Sam Cooke set... I even really like the box cover art!

This box set is available from Amazon UK for something in the range of $40 US right now. I only have The Essential Leonard Cohen 2-CD set and I love it, but I've never gotten his individual albums. Can anyone confirm that this is a steal that I shouldn't pass up?

Looks like there are actually TWO box sets to consider -- the studio albums only version available through Amazon, and the full box which also includes six live albums and a bonus book. The UK set is an excellent deal for only 40 bucks, but I think I'd rather hold out for a bargain price (say, $80-90) on the larger box.

Thanks, but after a very costly kitchen renovation this summer, I have to reserve my $80-$90 purchases to my favorite artists. Since I'm still relatively new to Leonard Cohen, I'm not sure I need to spend the extra $50 for some live albums and a book. Does anyone know if the smaller box set has expanded versions of the original albums?

I went ahead and ordered the studio box from amazon.uk but then I remembered that the last time I did this my credit card company (or was it my bank?) charged me a conversion fee which was rather high (not that I can recall how much it was. $10 maybe?).

I ordered the Phil Spector Presents The Philles Albums Collection from amazon.uk too as it's cheaper than getting it from amazon.

We'll see what the final charge is...

My credit card tends to charge about 2.5% as a foreign transaction fee, which is pretty reasonable. One of the best things about Amazon UK's pricing is that VAT is included, so when you go to process your order the actual price (in British pounds) is about 15-17% lower. If only we could do something about that darn dollars-to-pounds conversion rate.

Cohen's pretty much my favorite artist, so yeah, grab it.

I learned a trick about using credit cards, I'll post this in the ICEbox too. When ordering from Amazon US, I use the Amazon Chase credit card. When you sign up, you get something like $30 off your first order, plus you then get bonus points worth 3% off after-the-fact for all future orders, except I think for 3rd party marketplace vendors.

When ordering from Amazon UK, I use a CapitalOne MasterCard, and avoid the usual 3% foreign conversion fees. There are a few credit cards out there that don't charge the foreign fee...

I just received my Leonard Cohen "The Complete Studio Albums Collection" from Amazon UK. Haven't listened yet (that's gonna take some time), but here are my initial thoughts:
PROS:
Nice small box. Fits 11 CDs in mini-replica LP sleeves.
Great price.

CONS:
It appears that none of these are expanded versions, just reproductions of the original albums (don't know about the mastering yet).
The booklet includes a brief essay, and track information for each album, but there are no lyrics or additional information.
There are no inner sleeves, so the discs are just inserted into the replica LP sleeve. Each CD has the standard red Columbia label.

Based on those lists, I must be disappointed, right? Not sure yet, but I'm not as excited as I would've been if the package was more complete (bonus tracks, lyrics, artist commentary, etc). Still, for the price, it was a great way for me to fill the Leonard Cohen-size hole in my CD collection. I'm sure I'll eventually seek out whatever expanded editions are out there, once I delve into this box for a while.

Yeah, I got it a while ago and am still getting through the set. I don't mind the lack of bonus tracks, there weren't any on the Beatles or mono Dylan boxes either, and you can't beat the price.
