The Aerosmith collection makes no sense. It's from Sony, yet it's heavier on Geffen-era hits!

The Aerosmith collection already exists (2cd), but not labeled and packaged as Essential I don't think. It has been out for years.

Previous "3.0" editions have been eco-repackages of the 2-disc "Essential" sets with a third disc containing about a half-dozen "new" songs--the 3rd disc on the Dylan set, for example, included "Beyond Here Lies Nothing" from "Together Through Life", released earlier that same year. (One major exception was "The Essential Bruce Springsteen", which was originally released as a two-disc set containing a "limited edition bonus disc" of rarities. All three discs were ported over to the "3.0" eco-packaging intact.)

Would appreciate it if they were a little more forthright in the press release and would just state "cheap" instead of "eco-friendly." Sorry, I just couldn't help myself.

Yeah the crappy packaging really negates the value of the added disc. I hate, hate hate cds in packages where you have to slide the disc out (pry it out is more accurate).

I don't like the color tinting on these either. But I have to admit the price makes some of these tempting.
