Kinda cool, kinda not. This catalogue continues to be criminally ignored in the US, but at least now the UK is doing something.
I HATE 2-fers whether they are on 1 CDs or 1, but certainly 2 CDs is better. Losing all the cover art sucks, but at least this has happened without having to pay crazy Japanese import prices.
I don't know if I'll get these or not (I've been waiting for this catalogue to get the proper treatment and this is probably the closest it will come) and I have no idea why One Step Closer and the Farewell Tour Album aren't here-maybe later?
The track listing are from the Second Disc site, although they are also on the AmazonUK links. Looks to me like the BGO of the late 80's/early 90's albums is just a crappy single disc two-fer-probably no bonus cuts, but I believe those were reissued (and remastered?) by One Way (I think) w/ bonus tracks.

Mmmm, kinda interesting, but I think I've got everything I need, in remastered sound, from whatever that box set was called a few years back.

And I'd stop at Stampede anyway, cos I'm allergic to Michael McDonald.

I guess I'll have to buy this one. It puts the 12" Disco version of "What a Fool Believes" onto CD for the first time.

I hope that someday, we'll get a U.S.A. expanded series(with more vault research to find more unreleased material), but, in the meantime, these discs will suffice. When Tom Johnston left the group(due to ulcers from excessive drug intake on the road), initially, he planned to continue to make a studio contribution(and he did contribute one song on the album that marked Michael McDonald's debut). In the next album sessions, Johnston recorded 3 songs(to date unreleased) that marked his final participation with the group(until 1980's reunions)

This is so frikin' sad to see such important records and artists given such a hack treatment. No unissued tracks and no doubt shoddy packaging and ripped from other CDs sound. This is a complete disgrace for Rhino and Warners to whore this stuff out like this.

This needs to be endlessly repeated in each Doobie reissue thread.

I'll be awaiting a audio review from this great community for this particular 2-fer. "Livin' On The Fault Line" is Keith Knudsen's, John Hartman's, Michael McDonald's and Tiran Porter's favorite Doobies release - and mine. If it is truly remastered, I'll have to pop for this one. (Too bad the old "Long Train Runnin'" box set didn't include every track from the first seven albums.)

Not to mention that Rhino Handmade has been scaled back to a shadow of its' former self(releasing discs only very occasionally) by Warner Music's two most recent owners.

My favorite too. Unremastered WB issue sounds fine to me...but I MUST HAVE the 12'' "What A Fool Believes" on CD. I'll take a shot.

O.K., Royal Scam. Like the Doobies' song says... "Dependin' On You." :)

The sad thing is...few catalogs like this one are ever going to get the treatment that we think that they deserve. No one is going to put serious effort into the Doobies at this point. The best thing that WB could do with this kind of thing is to be sure that this stuff is available for download in LOSSLESS format. I will not purchase anything digitally that isn't lossless.

There's actually lots of LOSSLESS WB product available at Rhino.com

I don't even know what "LOSSLESS format" means...

In other words, not Mp3 or AAC: Full fidelity music of CD(or better than CD) quality.

Yes...I know...and that's a good thing. It's not everything though. There is still a lot that's not available in lossless and I'm still not clear on how much artwork is available with lossless downloads. If they want to get me, lossless has to be equal to or cheaper than CD and has to offer a lot of artwork. No one is there yet, not even Rhino.

Rhino does FLAC. And I agree, it's not enough. But I would deal with downloading FLAC or Apple Lossless if it was my only or cheapest alternative.

I snagged the Japanese MLPS remasters last year because I felt Warners would never get around to doing domestic remasters. I also bought the MoFi Hybrid-SACD releases and the AF Gold of Minute By Minute. The Japanese MLPS versions are the best sounding to my ears. The Hi Rez layer on the SACD is top notch, but I still prefer the Jap MLPS redbook mastering to the MoFi redbook layer. The AF Gold version sounds much flatter and lifeless to my ears. I don't have the Long Train Runnin' Box so I'll probably get these for the Bonus Tracks.
