Chief amongst B.O.C.’s quota of superiority was songwriter, vocalist and guitarist Buck Dharma, the man responsible for writing their most popular track, the seminal ‘(Don’t Fear) The Reaper’. With time on his hands between B.O.C. albums, Buck set about recording his, so far, only solo album, the sagely titled ‘Flat Out’.

1. Born To Rock 3:24
2. That Summer Night 3:48
3. Cold Wind 4:37
4. Your Loving Heart 7:14
5. Five Thirty-Five 5:10
6. Wind Weather And Storm 2:35
7. All Tied Up 4:16
8. Anwar's Theme 4:12
9. Come Softly To Me 3:07

I was a huge BOC fan in the late-70s and early-80s, and always loved Buck Dharma's vocals & guitar playing, but never got this solo album. Did I miss a classic?

No. This is very, very mellow if I recall. I bought it on vinyl as a kid because I loved BOC and the video for "Born To Rock" was on MTV all the time and was so damn cool. The song kicks ass and the guitar work is wild!
But if I remember correctly, the rest is very wimpy. Now, in 1982 I needed things to kick ass all the time. Now that is not the case, so this may be better than I remember as a kid in high school.
I'd like to pick this up, but not for a while. If only a great label like Rock Candy could give us the missing BOC remasters!
This was a major release on CBS/Portrait but it bombed.

Buck was always much more into the melodic stuff rather than the heavy stuff.

"Burnin' For You" was supposed to be on this album but the band talked him into recording for Fire of Unknown Origin instead.

I quite like it, but it definitely shows his poppier influences.

On a side note, when the French import was the only CD available, Buck burned copies for fans and included "Gamera is Missing" and signed them (I believe he charged a flat $20).

Didn't Wounded Bird reissue this on CD a few years back? My CD is copy is on the CBS Rewind imprint, from the UK I think.

I have the rewind version aswell. Really like this record so I'll reinvest on the remaster and trade in my CBS UK Rewind version.
