Recorded in England at Jimmy Page’s studio, located on the banks of the River Thames, and produced by Stuart Epps, this album boasts a fine selection of melodic hard rock, with the emphasis on consummate songwriting, exceptional arrangements, exemplary vocals (from Bert Heerink) and, of course, Adrian’s blistering guitar work. I have this on vinyl, and although I haven't listened to it in years, I remember this being an excellent early-80s melodic hard rock album. The single "Burning Heart" was one of the first power ballads of that decade, and in my opinion was one of the best.

Very sophisticated for it's time and "Burning Heart" (a Top 40 single and MTV smash) was ahead of it's time and so much better than Big Hair power ballads that followed. Of course, Adrian Vandenberg is an amazing guitarist. Most people thought they were a Van Halen knock-off (the logo, the Dutch factor, the guitarist with the band name) an it's understandable. This album did well but the next two didn't (I still have Heading For A Storm and that's a good one). I do want to get this.

I haven't thought about or played this LP in years, either. Might give it a spin to see how/if it has held up.

I picked this one up at a store's closing sale. I don't know if it was an earlier remaster or the original master - I do know it sounds good. I remember when the album came out - I really enjoyed this one. Had it on cassette, thus the need for an upgrade! Always really liked side one. I loved the double kick on "Back On My Feet Again".
This came from a fertile period of good music that later got denigrated as "hair metal". Lots of good but short-lived bands in that time frame, but there was great music to be found.

Alan As far as I know, this has never been remastered, but Wounded Bird did release all 3 Vandenberg albums and they're not so easy to find anymore (I have Heading For A Storm).

Wounded Bird's version of the debut is actually still in print, but the other two albums are going for collectible prices: Think Rock Candy will remaster all of them?

Strange that Rock Candy would pick the one that's easier to find. I'd hope they do all three, because each had it's merits although there were some cliched songs too. They were Dutch and that neo-classical European style of playing and writing shows through. Very classy. Like Alan said, this was a golden age for Hard Rock/Metal (1980-83) because there was virtually no Hair Metal it was usually riff-based, no-frills Hard Rock like Coney Hatch, Fastway, Vandenberg, Aldo Nova, Survivor (before the ballads), Night Ranger (same) and it was great stuff. And even the Metal releases were of such a high standard from Ozzy, Sabbath, Maiden, Dio, Golden Earring, Priest, Kiss (before the hair Metal era). Ah, a great time. A lot of times, Rock Candy will do series, but sometimes they'll only pick one album by an artists. They say on their website that the label demands can be ridiculous sometimes and that delays also occur for silly reasons. Vandenberg were on Atco which was an Atlantic subsidiary, so perhaps they could only afford rights to one album.
