Edsel is proud to announce the acquisition of the licence for the famed Bearsville catalogue, originally owned and run by Bob Dylan’s manager Albert Grossman. The label ran from 1970 to 1983 and was home to wide range of acts. Our first release is from Norma Jean.
Norma Jean Wright was the original lead singer of Chic, appearing on “Everybody Dance”, “Dance Dance Dance” and the first album “Chic” in 1977. In 1978 she recorded this ‘solo’ album – although credited to Norma Jean, it was written, produced and performed by Bernard Edwards and Nile Rodgers with the musicians of the Chic Organisation.
The seven bonus tracks on this edition include the 7” and 12” mixes of the singles, as well as both sides of the standalone follow-up single “High Society”. The booklet contains a newly-written note by Daryl Easlea, author of the definitive book on Chic, “Everybody Dance: Chic And The Politics Of Disco”.
