Never bought a Uriah Heep album ever.
Is this comp a good place to start?
And if there are any Heepsters here (bad pun, I know), how about some recommendations for albums?
Actually, the fans ARE called Heepsters and I'm definitely one of them.
Sooooo many albums and I know the catalogue inside and out (I think we also have DanO, Geff and Rick as big fans).
Must Haves IMO: Very 'Eavy Very 'Umble Look At Yourself Demons And Wizards The Magician's Birthday Uriah Heep Live 1973 (double live LP) Sweet Freedom Return To Fantasy Firefly Abominog Head First Sea Of Light Wake The Sleeper Celebration Into The Wild
Good but not perfect: Wonderworld Fallen Angel Equator Raging Silence Sonic Origami
Gettin' kinda iffy, but still worthy at times: Salisbury High And Mighty Innocent Victim
Probably best avoid: Conquest Different World
If you have the $$$: A Time Of Revelation 25 Years On (4 CD box) Chapter And Verse (6 CD box)
both are fantastic!
The above comp John mentioned is probably the best one. I also highly recommend the 2006 2CD comp from Sanctuary called Easy Livin' Singles A's & B's a double CD of almost every single (A side and b-side) from 1970-1989. When purchasing any Heep go for the 2004-06 Sanctuary remasters-they are beautifully done with loads of bonus tracks, great liner notes and faithful cover art. Most can be found very reasonable.

I purchased the one noted at a steal of a price from Amazon.UK. As IP stated, I am definite "Heepster" as well with more than a couple comps. I liked the song selection and these tracks are the licensed remasters so the sound is excellent. Good place as anyplace to start (or in my place to continue.....).

Sorry, been listening to some Heep on the 'pod this afternoon and only just spotted this.
If you want a small list, just go for Look At Yourself and Demons And Wizards. They're generally regarded as the career high, and I'd go along with that.
Although it does seem to be only me that loves the 16 minute title track of Salisbury, so what the hell do I know!

i have the 3CD (brown cover) best of that came out years ago.
Isn't that the one that was indexed sequentially, rather than each disc being indexed separately? In other words, Disc 2 started with track 14 (or whatever)? It gave my CD player fits at the time.

These Spectrum sets are a killer deal. I just picked up the Thin Lizzy 2 disc for under $10 delivered.
Wasn't the Lizzy Spectrum comp one disc? That's the one I posted about-didn't know there was another one.
There are actually several Lizzy comps on Spectrum.
Though I was wrong, this one is "Universal TV" (television?), rather than "Universal Spectrum".
I bought the 2 disc "Greatest Hits". For someone like me who doesn't have the entire catalog, it's a great score. I actually got that one from Import cd's for $6.65 + s/h.
It's slightly bright, but I've heard much worse. Disc 1 is the biggest hits, disc 2 is album tracks + Moore & Lynott's Parisienne Walkways, another Moore track (Out In The Fields) that PL is said to have sang backup on, 2 supposedly previously unreleased live tracks (The Cowboy Song & Boys at the end of disc 2 from Sydney 1979) & a bit of Lynott solo.
1. Boys Are Back In Town 2. Jailbreak 3. Don't Believe A Word 4. Dancing In The Moonlight (It's Caught Me In It's Spotlight) 5. Rosalie/Cowgirl's Song (Live 1976/Hammersmith Odeon, London) 6. Waiting For An Alibi 7. Do Anything You Want To 8. Sarah (Version 3) 9. Chinatown 10. Killer On The Loose 11. Trouble Boys 12. Hollywood (Down On Your Luck) (Live 1983) 13. Cold Sweat 14. Thunder & Lightning 15. Sun Goes Down 16. Dedication 17. Still In Love With You 18. She Knows 19. Yellow Pearl (First 7" Remix) 20. Whisky In The Jar (Full Length Version) 21. Out In The Fields 22. Parisienne Walkways 23. Emerald 24. Bad Reputation 25. Wild One 26. Fighting My Way Back 27. Showdown 28. Black Rose (Live 1983) 29. Dear Miss Lonely Hearts 30. Rocker 31. Are You Ready (Live 1983) 32. Renegade 33. King's Call 34. Angel Of Death 35. Cowboy Song (Live) 36. Boys Are Back In Town (Live)

A fantastic comp I mentioned on here years ago. Shame the liner notes are ridiculously incorrect. I'd have done it for free but they didn't ask me. But damn, they got about 20 things wrong and it's Universal! Sound quality is very, very good.

I wouldn't have known about the inaccuracies, but the notes are definitely weak.
