Btw... bought Archives Vol 1 back in 2010, paid $218 for the Blu-ray version and thought that was a fair price at the time. $250+ for CDs? nah.

yes, it's 10 CD's but 3 of which most people already have.........

I am donating the discs I already own to our charity book/music sale at work, proceeds go to helping the needy around the holiday season. No sense keeping both and normally people pay decent money for quality releases to support the cause.

here is an odd one i've recently found:

neil young has released 3 'official release series' box sets in the last few years: '1 - 4', '5 - 8' and '8.5 - 12'. '1 - 4' is HDCD encoded and the other 2 are not.

so strange, just so strange.

I am more concerned why 5-8 and 8.5 - 12 are not GOLD CDs.
Get with it Warner Music.

I can’t justify $250 for a box of CDs in 2020. Where is the Blu-ray or DVDA version?

Neil has written that the music industry no longer finds blu-ray audio discs to be cost effective.

I'm not saying I agree with him, but that seems to be his opinion.

I'm hoping for a relatively cheap download for NYA subscribers, or I will be passing also.

I'm counting on downloads for the live Greendale & the ATG deluxe.

I think the next step will be all of the tracks available for download in FLAC, then possibly a lower cost CD set down the road.
As for the music industry not finding Music Blu-rays to be cost effective, he is probably correct. Music only Blu-ray releases seem to be few and far between now by the looks of things. I see many video/music releases but not the artists new albums.

Back in stock?

Thanks so much for your support! A second edition is being planned. It will be unique and we will have news of it for you soon. Needless to say, we were surprised that VOLUME II sold so quickly.

I find it hard to believe that they were surprised they could sell 3,000 deluxe sets of Neil Young's prime period. I am sure the second edition has been planned all along.

It's a rule of the music business that limited editions are always limited at a level beyond their original limitation.

The second pressing is going to be the same price by the looks of things, if you can believe the link at the Hoffman site. The question becomes where will it be sold, this thread may have to stay in this section of the forum. :)

In the words of Jerry Seinfeld, "strictly limited to the number we can sell".

i got this second hand in an email from a friend, so don't shoot me if it's not real.

supposedly posted by neil young yesterday:

"I've asked WBR/Reprise to create another version of Archives Volume II that will have all the same content, but with some changes in appearance to differentiate it from the first 3,000. For those that pre-ordered with the expectation that there would only be 3,000, we will allow you to cancel your preorder, if you choose. The new version will be sold at the same price and will come with the same hi res digital downloads and free NYA membership."

nothing about a cheaper CD's only: no book, no poster version.

It's true, you get to live. $250 second issue coming. I bet it once again is through his web site only. It will sell out again in all likelihood, why let other parties get involved?

I remember buying the Doors box set with the 'spy hole' supposed to be a limited edition, then came a far cheaper version which I would have preferred. I am not buying this expensive box despite being a Neil Young fanatic.

I am kinda glad that they are reissuing it to **** over the people who bought to flip. Let them sit on them forever or try to sell at cost or less.

I expect a 24 bit download at a much lower price. Will be very surprised if he doesn't go that way.

what did ray davies say?

give the people what they want

sell the 10 CD's for $100, or if you prefer, the 7 CD's you didn't already buy for $75. no frills in either package, just the music and the covers in a cheap box.

a whole hell of a lot of people would be very happy with mr. neil young. and he would sell a whole hell of lot more CDs that way too.

shit man, you can even be greedy, 10CD's $125...............the 7 we don't have $100 and they will STILL sell

For those keeping score, it now appears the proposed "another version" of Archives Volume II Ltd Edition Deluxe Box (same content, but some changes in appearance to differentiate from the first 3000) AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN. Neil's posting of that announcement has vanished from his NYA website.

Neil posted the following update yesterday, so it looks like a less "bells and whistles" option will indeed be available after all, from all retailers:

Quote:
10-23-20
Reprise Records, my record company for about 50 years, underestimated the demand for Archives Volume II. We were all surprised. It is a beautiful package that I am proud to have made for you. I do feel badly that we did not deliver it to many who were waiting so long for it.

We don't feel that offering more of a product sold as a limited edition is a good thing to do. Thank you to all who purchased this set.

In 2021 we will be offering more Archives Volume II products as Reprise had originally planned, available in all outlets. These, while not the boxed set, will offer all of the music and discs with a smaller book. The original large book will be available for separate sale.
Thanks! NYA

That's good to know. I normally would have gone for this package, but given my disappointment with the first one (a glorified best-of) and the fact that I've already bought however many disc from this one, I decided to sit it out. If there's a smaller, more economically price box or if the discs are offered separately, I'll be happy to purchase them.
