Neil Young Drops Previously Unreleased 1972 Song ‘Come Along and Say You Will’
Neil Young isn’t releasing his 10-disc collection Archives Volume 2: 1972-1976 until November 22nd, but paid subscribers of The Neil Young Archives website now have access to the previously unreleased song “Come Along and Say You Will.”
The tune was recorded at Young’s Broken Arrow Ranch on December 15th, 1972 with drummer Kenny Buttrey, bassist Tim Drummond, and pedal steel guitarist Ben Keith. They were weeks away from launching an extensive North American tour where Young would debut several new songs that ultimately wound up on the 1973 live album Time Fades Away.
“Come Along and Say You Will” didn’t make the cut for Time Fades Away, but it was played at least 11 times during the first month of the tour and live tapes have circulated for years. Nobody has ever heard the studio version prior to this.
It’s one of many unheard songs that will appear on Archives Volume 2. The package begins with material the Stray Gators cut in late 1972 and continues through the Time Fades Away tour, the Tonight’s the Night sessions and tour, the On the Beach and Zuma sessions, and songs he wrote for the Stills-Young Band LP before wrapping up with his 1976 world tour with Crazy Horse.
On November 6th, Young is releasing the live album and movie Return to Greendale. Also in the pipeline is a 50th-anniversary edition of After the Gold Rush, official bootlegs taped during a 1970 show at Carnegie Hall and a 1974 gig at the Bottom Line, a 1990 Crazy Horse club gig he’s calling Way Down in the Rust Bucket, and a 2019 European show with Crazy Horse he’s dubbed Noise and Flowers. Exact dates for most of these releases have yet to be announced, but he hopes they will come at some point in 2021.
Young hasn’t played to a live audience since Farm Aid on September 21st, 2019. Earlier this year, he announced plans to bring Crazy Horse to North American arenas. The pandemic forced him to indefinitely delay those plans and he’s largely been holed up at the Colorado home he shares with wife and actress Daryl Hannah. She’s filmed a series of Fireside Sessions acoustic shows on her iPad that show Young playing a series of tunes from throughout his career. The last one was released on July 1st and focused on political songs. It was later released as an EP titled The Times.

Jason, is the above video you posted supposed to be the studio version of “Come Along and Say You Will" ? (as the post by Larry from Rolling Stone says "Nobody has ever heard the studio version prior to this".) It sounds like a bootleg live version. The quality doesn't seem too great.

$250.00 is not disposable cash...$25 a CD.
i do not want the fucking book, just give me the music.....fucker.....fucker....fucker
Renny, have a heart, dude. At $250 a pop for his limited edition of 3,000 units, old Neil is only going to gross $750,000.
jim,
yep, he made a cool 3/4 million today, if they sold out.
for 12 unreleased songs.
and a few alternate versions.
i'm betting we get a 10CD only, no book, no poster, no frills (just like archives 1) release. right around novembar 22 when this set is released to the public.......i'm gonna say $100 - $125.

So Neil gets 100% of the profits, the company gets zilch? Yeah right. Here's hoping the budget versions appears sooner than later, but if it doesn't there is not enough popcorn in the stores for the festivities in the threads. I sold one of my DVD copies of Archives 1 earlier this year to fund Archives 2.

I can't believe I'm typing this. I was all set to pull the trigger, but in the style of James T. Kirk, I just . couldn't . bring . myself . to . do . it .
I really only need 3 of these previously released discs, so I'll either get those, or wait to see if a non-deluxe box shows up, closer to half the price. I must be gettin' old or sumfin...

I suspect their will be a download at the NYA store (different than the Greedy Hand store). There may possibly be a lower priced cd edition there also.

Someone actually tested the site for numbers sold and a earlier today it appeared that 2300 units have sold, 700 remaining. Very impressive for such a short period of time. Many people not willing to take a chance on a reissue soon and/or looking to flip in all likelihood.

if worse comes to worse, the 12 unreleased songs will eventually show up elsewhere and be ripe for the picking.....and you know the young camp knows this too, which i why i fully believe that, along with a whole lot of moony to be made, a 10CD cheaper version will appear, without the book and poster and whatever other toys and gimmicks they threw in there.
remember levon: "levon, levon likes his money, he makes a lot they say"
well: "neil young, neil young likes his money (too) he makes a lot they say (too)

what would jimbo have done?
Good question, he would have of course waited for Discorama to offer this at their discounted prices but I would doubt a place like Discorama would ever stock this (as it is rare and limited).
He did pass on big expensive box’s in the past, didn’t get the big Pink Floyd box or the Led Zep boxes so he would probably pass on this.
I’m not sure if he has Archives Volume One.
Btw... bought Archives Vol 1 back in 2010, paid $218 for the Blu-ray version and thought that was a fair price at the time. $250+ for CDs? nah.
