After the 1970 release of Changes (Friday Music 119), The Monkees disbanded quietly after one of the most incredible recording and television careers ever imagined.

In 1986, it was announced that The Monkees were coming back!

During their whirlwind 1987 concert season, Micky Dolenz, Davy Jones and Peter Tork released their first studio album in over sixteen years called Pool It!. The 80s pop/rock infused album not only did good business at radio and retail, it was also a home run with the newly created video channels like Nickelodeon which voted the first single Heart And Soul number one on their show Nick Rocks.

A fantastic second single soon followed with Ian Hunter's Every Step Of The Way featuring Davy Jones.

Another rock masterpiece can be visited once again with Midnight. With its Clapton-like guitar fills, a fine rock lyric, and a classic Micky Dolenz doing his r&b/rock vibe seamlessly, the track was truly another highlight on this fine new album.

Pool It! was undeniably a treasure trove of new music from these superstars. It brought back the aura and feel of a newly reformed spirit of the sixties. It has been a sorely missed Monkees masterwork in the physical domain now for many years... that is until now.

Friday has announced plans for a deluxe reissue of 1987’s Rhino Records “comeback” album for The Monkees, Pool It!. As with the band’s recent tour, Michael Nesmith sat out of Pool It! which reached No. 72 on the Billlboard album charts. Its lead single, “Heart and Soul,” cracked the Hot 100 at No. 87. A companion VHS, Heart and Soul, was billed as “The Official Monkee Videography,” promising “a behind-the-scenes look featuring music videos from their current album ‘Pool It!,’ interviews and a barrelful of special surprises.” In what’s certainly a surprise, Pool It! will be paired with Heart and Soul for a CD/DVD edition.

Wow. That is a shock that the videography will be included.

Happy Holidays One and All! Have a great New Years Celebration......alot of great things in store at Friday Music.........POOL IT/ THE DELUXE EDITION is just one of the many MONKEES projects in the very very near future!!!

Maybe it will include "Kicks", from the 1986 Arista comp "That Was Then, This Is Now", a CD that I will forever remember as being the used CD I bought at FYE last October which somehow authorized FYE to start trying to dock my credit card $11.99 a month for their stupid little VIP club.

I'm still waiting for the expanded mega-bonus track with scholarly liner notes booklet edition of this...

And they call me "evil!"

That CD wasn't one of their classics, some of it sounded like very bland 80's pop.

It was better than "Justus". Which isn't saying much. I need to pull out my copy--IIRC, the liner notes contained some surprisingly catty comments about Dolenz, Jones and Tork.

I just read he had a heart attack...66 years old. Too sad.

I just found a sealed original lp of this in one of my record crates...... will wonders never cease

The one Monkees album I never owned.

Just realized that this was apparently released a couple of weeks ago. Has anybody gotten it yet?

I did. Have watched the DVD.
