I love hearing different versions of songs - especially embryonic demos, works in progress. Gives a neat peek at the song development process. So that is the kind of stuff I most want on expanded type releases, as opposed to live tracks. For example, over the years there have been tons of Pete Townshend demos of his songs that have come out on bootlegs or his Scoop series, plus many Who demos with the full band - that is orgasmic for me! I love that stuff.
I just noticed that I said something incorrect above - I said Lizzy is my "fave band". I meant to say ONE of my fave bands. The 'OO is actually my #1. Lizzy is damn close though. Something weird to note - I don't think I own any Who "tribute" records - if I do I can't recall - and I'm not even interested in getting any, but Lizzy I probably have like 10 tribute CDs. Out of those one of them is kind of weak but the others I really really dig, I love hearing multiple versions of Phil's songs. The one by the guys from TNT is friggin' amazing (I forget what it's called, Bad Habits or something like that). Anything to give me an excuse to listen to more Lizzy songs I can dig!!

To those who didn't catch the Black Rose remaster at the low price, they raised it, but my pre-order was locked in. Hope everyone else did the same. Cannot wait for these next week!

Got my Amazon.co.uk shipment in today! Came really quick in comparison to recent orders there. Maybe some of the mail issues have been sorted out.
Listened to Bad Rep so far & I think it sounds great. Note I have tin ears though. Haven't compared it to any other sources, just sat back & listened & liked what I heard, could hear some things I didn't remember hearing before.

Thse are indeed newly remastered-that is a fact this time around, but the 2004 Japan remasters they used on the last batch was still very good. AmazonUK supposedly shipped mine on Sunday but I have nothing yet (maybe tomorrow).

I was surprised when Bad Reputation showed up today as a single disc (no wonder it was less expensive). I was relieved to see it was the actual remaster. I wish they would be more consistent with these releases. Some use 2010 remastering, and some use 2004 remastering. Some are single discs, some are doubles. The good news is all the remasters sound better than the horribly outdated CDs from yesteryear. And this latest batch sounds simply amazing! It's as if someone pulled the tablecloth off of the speakers. So this begs the question that must be asked (again): Why in the hell didn't they use the 2010 remasters for the last batch? Oh well, if you're a Thin Lizzy fans these are all must-haves anyway.

Oh well, if you're a Thin Lizzy fans these are all must-haves anyway. I'm listening to Black Rose right now - FABULOUS!!!! Both this and Bad Reputation have never sounded better. The bonus stuff on Black Rose is awesome as well. Big thumbs on both of these. Haven't listened to Chinatown yet. Regarding why the 2010 remasters were not used for the last batch, supposedly the story is that someone connected to the band/management of the project (Gorham?) pulled the plug on the remastering by submitting a CD rip of the japanese sources to Universal and told them to just use that, causing quite a bit of frustration for the studio guys (Pearce/Wortham) who had already put some work into it, restoring the tapes, submitting initial CD masters etc. Seeing/hearing how fantastic these 2 new ones sound only disappoints me even more that Andy Pearce was not allowed to do his thing with Jailbreak, JTF, and L&D. Not that what came out sounds bad (they sound OK to me) but we could have gotten something to really "wow" us, like I am wowed by Black Rose right now.....

What is the packaging on these? Is Bad Reputation a jewel case? I'm thinking of picking them both up, but I was just curious about the presentation.
Thanks a lot in advance.

Thanks a lot in advance. Yes, Bad Reputation is in a jewel case with an expanded booklet and bonus tracks. It doesn't have as many bonus tracks (6) so it didn't get the deluxe treatment. Both Black Rose and Chinatown are in the Deluxe Edition digi-packs with the sticker, which is the norm these days. Black Rose has 10 bonus tracks and Chinatown has 15 (some great live stuff). All of these albums have never sounded better...

Toughest Street In Town - great "missed" classic.
I've got the 1996 remasters, and the 2cd Greatest Hits set. I might decide I'll settle for those. But what I'd really like is a good remaster of Life. I remember making a "non-Live and Dangerous" live cd comp, including some from Life and some other stuff from b-sides (e.g. Dear Miss Lonely Hearts) and radio broadcasts. I had to use an equaliser to make the Life stuff a bit brighter as it just sounds so dull.

How was the last master of "Life", the one in the single-size case? I really like a lot of that album.

Alan The 1993 Metal Blade remaster of Life-Live is the best one out there by far (unless there's a Japanese treatment with different remastering). I trust Andy Pearce and Matt Wortham, but if this does get the treatment I'm not sure they'll better that one. The mix will always have issues (at times it's very hard to hear Sykes), and there's too much treble, but the Metal Blade is very, very good. I want these 3 that I ordered and they best be in today's mail. At least I got them at way cheaper prices than they're at now by ordering early, so I won't complain too much.

Damn, I wish the band hadn't stopped Pearce's work on the previous three D.E.'s. What they used isn't bad but I don't think it is as good as how these three turned out.

I've had good luck lately but earlier in the year I was waiting 2-3 months for stuff. I hope yours comes soon. Unfair that you are still waiting, you were probably the first to pre-order amongst all of us!

Yeah, I don't know if it's "terrorism" concerns, or if US customs has just gone way downhill the last year, but we're now dealing with what the rest of the world deals with on a daily basis.
There are many countries where 30-60 days delivery from the USA has a somewhat frequent occurrence. I currently refuse to ship to the following countries at all, other than to established customers who are willing to be patient:
Libya, Niger, Nigeria, Somalia, South Africa, Afghanistan, China, Iraq, Malaysia, Russian Federation, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Romania, Mexico, Brazil
Some are common sense (Afganistan, Iraq & Romania are examples), others are due to too many problems (the European countries, Mexico & Brazil).

The worst countries for mail slowness that I have shipped to were Norway and...dammit I can't recall the other ones. Might have been Brazil and I forget what else. I had some packages go missing for like 3+ months. This was a few years ago, via ebay sales. I've since stopped shipping internationally via ebay, just too many hassles.

I agree. Especially after the numerous strikes. Here is my current Canada post-strike form letter:
"For those in Canada, we don't know yet what impact the recent postal strike is going to have on packages from the USA. In the past, Canadian postal strikes have delayed delivery of some of our packages by as much as several weeks. In the past, these delays continued for several months after the end of the strikes; so we ask that our valued Canadian customers will be patient during this time."

Just ordered Bad Behavior, as that's the one I have the most sentimental attachment to from my childhood (remembering listening to it in the garage a lot while my friends and I played poker at a folding table, trying to act like adults). Really looking forward to it. Will probably order the others gradually over the next year or so.
