I just saw some info on upcoming Monkees reissues for the albums “Present” and “Changes”, with no mention of “Instant Replay.”

Pause & Play says they will be released on May 24, 2011 on Rhino. Amazon US and UK indicate the same date, but Amazon US doesn’t specify the label, Amazon UK says they are on Friday Music. Same Amazon ASIN numbers for US and UK.

No mention on the Rhino website, which doesn’t look like new releases have been updated since February.

Aha, they are mentioned on the Friday Music website. The text says Changes has 3 bonus tracks, Present has 5.

What does all this mean? Is Rhino not going to issue these as deluxe editions? Will Instant Replay come out in the Friday Music series?

To be continued…

P.S. The first 4 Monkees albums were just reissued again on CD by Rhino, straight with no bonus cuts. Same thing for the Bee Gees first 3.

Description
To celebrate The Monkees' 2011 reunion, Friday Music is very proud to announce Monkees Present.

Originally released in October 1969, Present included two Top 40 hit singles "Listen To The Band" and "Good Clean Fun" both written by Michael Nesmith. Micky Dolenz also resonates with incredible performances on the album opener "Little Girl" & "Mommy and Daddy." Davy Jones' vocals excel on the rocker "Looking For The Good Times" & the superlative ballad "French Song."

Mastered impeccably from the Colgems Records tapes by Joe Reagoso, this CD now includes 5 bonus tracks.

I'm pretty sure that the 2 CD Monkees deluxe remasters died when Rhino fired Bill Inglot and Andrew Sandoval.

Well, Rhino Handmade did do "Head" recently. Was "The Birds, The Bees & The Monkees" a regular Rhino release or did it come thru Rhino Handmade?

I'm kind of surprised they didn't do these via Handmade - unless that's kaput now too.

I guess the question I have would be...how much post Tork-era music is still in the vault for a possible multi-disc editions? I'm guessing that this era did not see many dedicated mono mixes, which were a prime reason that these newer deluxe editions have been two- and three-disc sets.

Of course, this really would seem to cast doubt on Rhino ever issuing deluxe versions of "Pool It" and "Justus" as well.

These releases seem like they are the straight reissues of the ones that Rhino put out a few years back.

With Collector's Choice being sold is Friday Music going to be the hub for Warner/Elektra/Atlantic/Rhino reissues?
