This October, the career of rock icon Ozzy Osbourne will be celebrated with the Epic Records/Legacy Recordings "Memoirs Of A Madman" collections.
Due out October 7, "Memoirs Of A Madman" CD serves as a career-spanning audio release, featuring 17 of Ozzy's greatest hit singles compiled in one place for the first time in his career and will be available in a single CD, two-LP set and two-LP picture disc set configurations.
The "Memoirs Of A Madman" DVD is a definitive visual two-disc DVD set which includes classic music videos, along withunreleased and out-of-print live performances, plus interviews from his solo career. Both sets offer fans of the multi-platinum recording artist, Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame inductee and three-time Grammy-winning singer and songwriter hours of entertainment from Ozzy's distinguished solo career.
On July 22, fans got a sneak peek of "Memoirs Of A Madman" via Twitter. By using #OzzyRules in accordance with the number of tweets, engaged fans were able to unscramble the cover artwork and unlock a video teaser.
Osbourne 's ongoing solo career spans four decades — as both a successful solo artist and as the lead singer of BLACK SABBATH — and his music is as relevant today as ever; it still resonates daily on TV, in movies, on radio and at stadium sports events. Ozzy's latest solo release — his tenth studio album, 2010's "Scream" — debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard chart, featuring the No. 1 Mainstream Rock smash "Let Me Hear You Scream".
From the first notes of Ozzy's 1980's solo debut "Blizzard Of Ozz" and follow-up "Diary Of A Madman" to classic albums "No More Tears" and "Scream", no hard rock solo artist has had quite the same reach as Ozzy; his distinctive vocal delivery and larger than life onstage persona quickly endeared him to millions of rockers. Ozzy immediately had the attention of fans of heavy music with rock staples "Crazy Train", "Mr. Crowley" and "Flying High Again". With the 1991 release "No More Tears", Ozzy continued his radio success with acclaimed and hugely successful singles "No More Tears" and the smash hit "Mama, I'm Coming Home".

Far more significant is the DVD, which is great, although there are so many pro-shot Ozzy concerts, they easily could've included a couple of those (I think I have all of them).
Nice to see the Rhoades material on there, and to those who bought the Diary box set, you KNEW that was gonna happen!
As for the absence of "Shot In The Dark" from the DVD and CD, thank the law suit from Phillip Sousann.
Otherwise, for a single CD best-of it's rather on the money, and hopefully has the original recordings!

I was actually playing my Ozzy CDr in the cop car today which includes basically the first 2 albums and then some of the later hits like Bark At The Moon and Shot In The Dark. So this is similar except no Revelations.

The listing doesn't say - what live performances are actually on the DVD? The Diary box set had the After Hours performance (with an edit or two, apparently), and some other live stuff of less than pro quality. After Hours is still the only quality live Rhoads video that's come out, to my knowledge.
I'd love to see more, though...
Never mind - just found the video thread.

Well, if Ozzy and Sharon would just have paid their musicians their fair share of royalties, etc to begin with, "Shot In The Dark" would be on there, now wouldn't it???
I'm surprised that anything from The Ultimate Sin is on there, based on Ozzy's known disdain for the album. I don't know why, as it was his first top 10 album here in the US and was a great album.
Pete, I'll be eagerly awaiting yer rebuttal on that one.

Pass. The big selling point for me would be the video collection on DVD but it's incomplete without Shot In the Dark. And I'd lay it's omission at Sharon Osbourne's feet as Phil Soussan is certainly not the only ex-member of the band that has a problem with the Osbournes. At least Soussan won't be subjected to being credited as Bill Susan on this release, but maybe the Osbourne's will go back and insult Bob Daisley by crediting him as Bob Daisy.
But they still could have sold me on this if they would have included You Said It All on the CD but once again they blew it.

Good point - if they'd included the Mr. Crowley EP, this would be a no-brainer. I'm likely in for the DVD if the price is right, but once again, the Ozzy camp puts vendetta above all else.

The DVD is all I will be getting. "Shot In The Dark" is missing but no kidding, from my vintage MTV collection I must have at least 50 airings of it from my 1986 tapes/DVDs. I don't need to see it again.
This is a good comp though, but one of Ozzy's biggest hits will be absent-only the Osbournes!
As for "You Said It All" why would that be on a straight best-of?
Now, if that went on a 2 CD edition with the 2nd disc as rarities, then I'd be in.
And as for the lawsuit, when I said "thanks to", I wasn't saying it was Soussan's fault. Just sarcastically thanking yet more legal wranglings as Sharon feels the best way to treat people is like shit.

I will just say The Ultimate Sin is not in my collection.

And this is why you're not Jimbo...
As for why they maybe should have included "You Said It All" - it would be just an enticement to get the hardcores to pony up for something they already own. I have the early Ozzy stuff, and I'm not much of a fan of the later stuff, so the CD has no appeal to me. The DVD, yes. But I'm not the target audience.

And if they did that people would bitch that they only did so to get $ from people like us!
They did us a favor.
