But, even after the 10 surfboards are sold, I have no doubt that The Beach Boys will think of more possible merchandise possibilities, and if they(The Beach Boys) are limited to using the Smile Shop on CD & L.P. releases, maybe Frank Holmes can offer lithographs or T-shirts.

What about a "Smile" beach towel or even a "Smile" turntable to play those "Smile" L.P.'s?

I'm joining this thread late, but this release really seems like overkill to me. That being said, I wouldn't mind getting all 5 CDs form the box set, nicely packaged, without the rest of the stuff. The only thing that interests me much musically are all the outtakes of Good Vibrations.

A new surfboard for Jimbo?

Here's some info about two "Smile Sessions" tracks that have already leaked.

Heroes & Villains is a new edit/composite, mostly from the "Smiley Smile" version, but editing in the "Cantina" section, and adding a new ending

Good Vibrations is mostly the hit version, throwing in the "Hum Be Dum" section(from the "Beach Boys Rarities" version) right after the "got to keep those good vibrations" slow organ section, and it has an extended ending.

I suppose, that all these years, the bootleggers could have created similar hybrid versions, but now you're hearing Capitol do it. And doing it very nicely.

Check the "spoiler" thread at the "Smiley Smile" forum where you can find the link to this official leak. When I tried to post the website address here, it didn't go to the correct page. Maybe I didn't type it correctly, or maybe it can only be accessed via the Smiley Smile forum.

I've been patiently waiting since 1967 for the official SMiLE surfboard to be released. I can't believe the Beach Boys would do this to me. They owe me a surfboard, damn it! I've been a loyal fan for so long now. Sure, every so often I'd get rumors, hints, promises even, that the surfboard would finally be available. Taunting, even. Nothing. Enough is enough. No way in hell I'm buying the damned surfboard edition.

Unless the price comes down.

Think a $2000 price for the surfboard + autographed CD box set would have been more appropriate, but my guess is, that since only 10 surfboards are being produced, they'll find 10 people willing to pay $6000, if only as an investment. At any price, I'm not fazed, since I don't surf, and (excepting Dennis Wilson & Bruce Johnston) neither did The Beach Boys.

Neither do I, Phil. Since I live in Iowa, it actually works out pretty well.
