I'll probably get the 2 disc version.

I want to see the tracklist first.

I'm so excited. I love this album.

I went surfing around and found this track list. It's in a couple places so it could be correct. Now the question is...
Will the deluxe version be worth it. Has anyone heard the mono version of the album? How about the Thrillington?

I imagine those will be exclusive to the big book and will be the only reason to purchase it for me. I don't care about the dvd.

Very exciting stuff!

Is the DVD footage or music videos? I'm on the fence with this one. If I do get it, it woul be the 2 disc version. I'm still too hyped with Wings Over America on the horizon.

Not knowing the length of the tracks, disc 2 looks pretty skimpy

I'm not sure the 2CD version will be worth the $$$$. I might just get the single disc.

I have. They're fun to listen to. The nice thing about the mono LP is that it's an actual mono mix, not just a fold down of the stereo. Thrillington just cracks me up. I've long maintained the theory that Paul heard about John's "How Do You Sleep?" (probably from George), and said "Oh, you think what I'm doing NOW sounds like Muzak? Well, fuck you, man! I'll show you how my stuff would sound if it really WAS Muzak!"

The tracklisting above is correct. And from Second Disc, here's the variations on this one-yikes!

Introducing the new Archive Editions, McCartney stated, “”Ladies and gentlemen, this is an album from a long, long time ago, when the world was different. This is an album that is part of my history…it goes back to the wee hills of Scotland where it was formed. It’s an album called Ram. It reminds me of my hippie days and the free attitude with which was created. I hope you’re going to like it, because I do!” The centerpiece of the reissue campaign is, of course, the 4-CD/1-DVD edition, with all contents enclosed within a 112-page hardcover book. Ram will also be offered as a single-CD remaster, a 2-CD deluxe edition, 2-LP vinyl edition, 1-LP mono vinyl edition and digitally. Whew!

Ram, the only album jointly credited to Paul and Linda McCartney, was largely composed by the duo at their farm in Scotland. Recording began in New York in the fall of 1970 with a cast of musicians including future Wings drummer Denny Seiwell and guitarists David Spinozza and Hugh McCracken. The album made it all the way to No. 1 in the U.K. and No. 2 in the U.S. and remains one of McCartney’s most beloved post-Beatles recordings. The single “Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey” even topped the success of “Another Day,” and became Paul’s first U.S. No. 1 single. It even snagged a Grammy Award!

As Ram was being readied, a promotional mono mix was distributed to radio stations, and over time this special edition of the album has become a sought-after collectible. It makes its CD debut as part of the 4-CD/1-DVD book edition and returns to vinyl on a special stand-alone LP release. In addition to the mono CD and the stereo remaster, the Ram box set includes the 1977 album Thrillington, recorded in June 1971 at Abbey Road by one Percy “Thrills” Thrillington. Beneath the cover of a violin-playing ram, one would find an instrumental interpretation of the Ram album arranged by Richard Hewson and featuring among its personnel Herbie Flowers, Vic Flick and The Mike Sammes Singers. The fourth CD in the box set contains eight rarities and associated tracks including outtakes “A Love For You,” “Hey Diddle” and “Sunshine Sometime,” as well as “Another Day” and “Oh Woman, Oh Why.” The DVD premieres featurettes “Ramming,” “Heart of the Country,” “3 Legs,” “Hey Diddle,” “Eat at Home on Tour” and various radio jingles first heard on a Ram promotional LP cheekily entitled Brung to Ewe By! The deluxe edition also includes access to the album in download form in 96/24 resolution plus 5 prints in a vintage style photographic wallet, replicas of handwritten lyric sheets and a mini photo book of outtakes from the album cover shoot.

A single-CD remaster will offer the original album only, while a 2-CD edition includes the remastered original album plus the 8-track bonus disc. The 2-LP 180-gram gatefold vinyl includes the remastered album and bonus content with download card for all 20 tracks. A Limited Edition Mono Vinyl contains just the mono album only. Digital configurations will include “Mastered for iTunes” and high resolution versions.

Have any of the other Concord reissues had a single-disc version?

yes all have had single disc versions, though stores seem to carry the 2 disc versions more often (obviously not an issue online), but I haven't found the 2nd discs worthwhile.

There's a part of me that wants the deluxe versions of all these releases, but the practical side of me always wins out. The mono version doesn't have a lot of appeal to me simply because it's not a part of my musical memory of the album. I love The Beatles In Mono set & other collections of mono singles - but I could see myself listening to the mono version of Ram once. The same goes for Thrillington.

I like the 2 disc versions if only for the non-LP singles where applicable. I wish that they had continued with the design they used with Band On The Run - and put the DVD in the the 2-CD version - I would even pay a little more for this option.

I love Paul McCartney and I enjoy good "lounge" music like Esquivel and Martin Denny, but I used to have Thrillington on CD and it totally bored me. Your mileage, of course, may vary.

These 3-4 CD sets are really scraping the barrels. I owned, then sold the super deluxe versions of McCartney & McCartney II. I found the bonus CDs virtually UN-listenable. The bonus tracks at times were bloody awful amongst a handful of reasonable songs. If you could listen through for example extended DUB versions of tracks from McCartney II you would be a very brave listener.

The Band On The Run set was great because the songs were great. These latest sets are a very mixed bag.

I can see your point. Not much has been added to the new editions, music-wise. The only "super-deluxe" edition I sprang the extra $$ for was McCartney II. And only for the third disc. I like the extra tracks (as a collector), but the main attraction to me after years of resisting replacing my "Beatle" vinyl is now I can "justify" getting these earlier albums on CD. I just hope they keep the Archive series to the pre-CD days -- which would be somewhere around Give My Regards to Broad Street.

As for Thrillington, I already have that on CD! Not "thrilled" about Thrillington, as it's probably just jacking up the price a little more.

CD 2 in each set is worth it if you are interested in the period singles - remastered in the same quality as the album. The price difference is $3 & change, and that's OK for me.

As I've said a number of times, I prefer the system they used with Band On The Run where the DVD was included with the 2 CD version. I would even pay a few dollars more for a set with the CD, the bonus CD & the DVD...but alas, they changed the way they are doing them. (The "Special Edition" of BOTR was actually an incredible value & probably worth a little more than they charged for it.)
