Disappointing, but still worthy. Also, this is the first of the IRS albums to be granted remastering by Iommi which is a great sign for the rest of the albums. (Remember, Dehumanizer was on IRS everywhere but here in the States where it was on Reprise/Warner Bros.).
I will get this Day One.
I was hoping the demos would make it especially "Bad Blood" but they are just demos and Iommi is not keen on that. No way the Dehumanizer demos with Tony Martin were ever gonna make it and with respect to Ronnie it's obvious why. Eternal Idol was a special case regarding Iommi allowing a demos to see the light of day.
Born Again is still on the way and then Headless Cross chould be next, and those are two of my absolute favorite Sabbath albums. Fans have been clamoring for Headless Cross for years (still gets a good amount on ebay and Amazon).

Doesn't really sound like much to me. The Wayne's World version of "Time Machine" has always been a bonus on the CD, so it's really nothing new.

I'll get this but I wish they would put different live songs as bonus tracks from the Dio era albums. It seems the same live material is released as the bonus songs. Looking forward to the rest of the non-Ozzy era releases as well.

Born Again could come with a second CD of a live show from that tour. That would be great. Drop the Bev Bevan drum solo, and it just might fit onto a single disc. I loved the version of Black Sabbath from that tour...Gillan let out a scream during the song that was intense.

All the b-sides are new to CD and so are the live tracks, so there's plenty new, but nothing thrilling. The only fully formed songs they could've gone with were the demos and Iommi vetoed that. That "Time Machine" version from the movie may not have been on the overseas version so it's new to them. Otherwise, yes, we know it was already on there on both cassette and CD.
As for the live tracks being different, there are live Dehumanizer cuts, but not all of them. The Dio set lists were fairly stagnant until the Heaven And Hell band era because they still had to get the Ozzy era songs in, so that's why you always see the same cuts. They almost always played those same tunes from Heaven And Hell and Mob Rules.
This isn't what we hoped for, but really the demos are out there and they wouldn't have sounded any better so what should we have gotten here?

Now that this is coming out and the remastering is so much better for these than the Rhinos, plus there's bonus tracks and better liner notes and photos, and I have all the other UK ones from Sanctuary/Universal, I put my Rules Of Hell box on Amazon last night and sold it an hour after I listed it.

Speaking of the Born Again album, does anyone have a good sounding boot from that tour on audio or video or BOTH? I have an audio show from Chicago, with the Reading Festival on it as well. I was hoping to try and get another good quality show. I can send blanks if anyone has.

Thanks,

Mark

The "Gillan The Hero" one from The Centrum, Worcester, MA. USA on November 4, 1983 has outstanding sound - its a board tape that could easily have been tweaked into an official live album.

And its one disc:

1. Supertzar
2. Children Of The Grave
3. Hot Line
4. War Pigs
5. Iron Man
6. Zero The Hero
7. Heaven And Hell
8. Solo Iommi
9. Digital Bitch
10. Black Sabbath
11. Smoke On The Water
12. Paranoid

One of my all-time favorite live recordings and a staple of the Ipod playlist.

This is a killer show-it was an FM broadcast from Thanksgving Eve 1983. I remember taping it late at night after I got home from drinking at our stupid school bonfire that we did not want to go to. Fond memories-the show, not the bonfire.

Didnt Sabbath record the Dehumanizer album with Cozy Powell on drums before Vinnie Appice returned ? If he did then they would make great bonus tracks .

Already covered in my Sabbath rules thread w/ recordings from that time frame. I can see why they weren't included-they're just demos and don't sound all that great, but "Bad Blood" is a kick-ass song.
As for the Tony Martin version of the album, I'm 100% sure out of respect to Ronnie that was not considered.
