Raven presents for the first time on CD the final, classic album by the RAIDERS – Country Wine (1972). Throughout the 1960s Paul Revere & the Raiders were one of the most popular and successful American groups, with 14 Top 40 US hit singles and hundreds of television appearances on Where the Action Is and Happening. Their hits between 1965 and 1967 (including ‘Steppin’ Out’, ‘Just like Me’, ‘Kicks’, ‘I’m Not Your Stepping Stone’, ‘Him or Me – What’s It Gonna Be’, ) were bold, unpretentious slices of ‘60s rock & roll with a defiant, punky edge. By 1970 they’d progressed musically, adopting a more mature, contemporary approach exemplified by the albums Collage and Indian Reservation plus the hard riffing single ‘Just Seventeen’ and their #1 smash ‘Indian Reservation’.

For the band’s final Columbia album, Country Wine, singer Mark Lindsay had taken over production and song writing duties and was coming up with impressive material. Highlights include the hit singles ‘Country Wine’ and the crunching ‘Powder Blue Mercedes Queen’ plus ‘Ballad of the Unloved’, ‘Baby Make up Your Mind’ and ‘Golden Girls Sometimes’. With 11 Bonus Tracks – culled from non-LP single sides 1971-1974 and the band’s final recordings with Lindsay – this is a top value release. Follows Raven’s previous Paul Revere & the Raiders collections Kicks! The Anthology 1963-1972 (RVCD-215) and Indian Reservation / Collage (RVCD-298).
