Is there a "best" Archies CD, taking into account sound and selection? How about a reasonably priced quality Archies comp? There must be ICErs with an opinion on this.

Counting imports, there's a least a dozen Archies comps on a variety of labels floating around. I'm satisfied with Absolutely the Best from Varese, which sounds good and includes all original recordings, something I can't vouch for with the other comps. It includes all 6 of their charting singles.

I'm happy with my Repertoire, which has an almost identical cover to Jimbo's above.

I have a CD single in the shape of a heart that has the song "Sugar Sugar".

You know, with all the talk of gloom and doom concerning the future of CD's, it's wonderful to see that, in the year 2008, The Archies Greatest Hits is being rereleased. The ARCHIES! Now, this is not meant as a criticism of The Archies. It's simply that this is not a record that I thought would see the light of day again.I know the numbers are bad, but it's encouraging to know that some labels will not go down without a fight.

Listen, children, all is not lost. :yay:

I used to have a couple of those cardboard singles, which came on the outside of cereal boxes in the mid-1960s. I really wish I still had those. :-(

It hasn't gotten much attention, but Ron Dante has reissued a few complete Archies albums with new packaging (featuring on real-life Dante, fairly enough). Also, beware of this like you would any Cleopatra release. This is the same company that lured Mike Score of A Flock of Seagulls to re-record his old songs for a remix album, and then (to Score's alleged surprise) released the straight re-recordings as a greatest hits package.

Mine must be an earlier edition than the one Linda has added above. I don't recognize that cover.

Hm, from '99 - then that's the one I've got after all. It's just that I've seen that band drawing on Jimbo's so often, I'm confusing it with the one I own. Anyway, good sound from the period before Repertoire started over-compressing.
