I noticed on ebay and amazon (UK) that Tone Arm Records has new cd reissues of the two Tarney Spencer Band albums. Any reason to think these are legit reissues?

Well, they're both available only from a German third-party dealer at Amazon UK, and they're listed as Swedish pressings in a couple of discographies, plus they're on an obscure label, so I'll wager that these are boots. They might be good pickups regardless ...

If anyone decides to pick these up, I'd be very interested in knowing how they sound. I picked up a couple of boots some years ago, but they were awful needle-drops. I've done my own vinyl transfers of their first two albums and their non-album single sides, and I have a CD-R copy of the legitimate Run For Your Life CD, all of which sound great (if I may say so myself). These new discs would have to sound really clean for me to be interested. Though I must say I don't recognize "Making A Bad Boy Good" or "Can't Get By Without You" -- I wonder what they mean by "single Blackie"?

Oh, and "Tone Arm Records" sure screams needle-drop to me.

I was all set to tell you guys about my discovery... Looks like I'm a year or so late!

I just got Run for Your Life. I had a Canadian boot from 2001. This is so much better than that. Is it a needle drop? Almost certainly, but it is a very good one. I'm usually disappointed with needle drops because they fade tracks out early, shortening the tracks by several seconds in some cases. If there is any of that on this version, it is very slight. In fact it's good enough that I am finally going to let go of my LP copy. This from someone who is hanging onto a vinyl Gold Plated because all cd copies of Couldn't Get it Right fade out about 8 seconds too early; and A Private Heaven because cds always fade out Strut about 10 seconds early.

By the way, the bonus tracks are great. I'm very glad I got this.

I'm enjoying it so much that I might get the other album, too.

These still need a real US reissue. Wounded Bird?

My only concerns about Wounded Bird doing the reissues are that they tend to go cheap on the packaging & rarely add bonus material. What I'd really like to see is all three albums (including 1976's Tarney And Spencer) delicately remastered, with all the non-album single sides as bonus tracks, and packaged in faithfully-reproduced mini-LP sleeves (rounded corners on TAC, foil lettering on RFYL).

Yes, I'm dreaming. But it really should be done!

No disagreement here Ven. I was just going the route that I thought was more likely.

And I should add that I'm generally very happy with Wounded Bird releases. They get the stuff out there and in good quality, which is the important thing.
