Review "Gordon Lightfoot has performed at Massey Hall more than any other individual artist in the Halls 117 year history. The contribution that Mr. Lightfoot has made to Toronto is immense and it s only fitting that he would share some of these moments with the rest of the world with the release of Massey Hall Moments All Live. Great halls need great performances from the greatest performers. Gordon Lightfoot is part of the Massey Hall legacy and we re proud to welcome him back year after year. We always look forward to it. Welcome home Gordon!" --Charles S. Cutts, President and CEO of The Corporation of Massey Hall and Roy Thomson Hall
Product Description It is the musical highlight of every calendar year when Canadian Music legend, Gordon Lightfoot announces his run of concert dates at Toronto's storied Massey Hall. May 25th, 2011 marked Gordon's 150th concert at the hallowed hall in the past 40 years. In 1978 he played a remarkable 10 shows in 9 days, selling out each and every night. Now, for the first time ever, Gordon has gone through the archives of live recordings from Massey Hall and has picked the finest performances recorded between 1998 - 2001.
"The recordings have not been technically altered and are authentic live mixes," says Lightfoot of the album. Fans will hear each song exactly as it was performed that night - no over dubs, no mixing - all live.

Unlike the Harrison estate (George would most likely agree), here's a guy who's not afraid to give the consumer their money's worth. Just pre-ordered. Thanks, Peter J.

Thanks, Headfone. Yeah, this is a very full CD and at a very cheap price on Amazon. (I just ordered it myself.)
I see that his 4-CD set "Songbook" has gone out of print and is for sale at high prices. That's too bad, because it's a fine set and also quite long with 88 songs. Meanwhile, I'm just happy that he recovered for his illness and is able to tour again. He's an underrated artist.

Big fan here, but not of any recordings done since he lost his voice, and this says "1998-2001", so I'll pass. I had that 4-CD box, but finally sold it when all of his albums finally got a CD release. The only non-album tracks I liked were the first 2 tracks on the first CD, which were done in a 50's Country style a la Jim Reeves.

I don't understand why 1998-2001? unless there is nothing in the vaults prior to this, which would be a very sad state of affairs. Given his long history there one would expect a collection to be more inclusive of all the years - especially since the '70's through '80's he was arguably 'on top of his game'....I'm going to pass also... I love Gord, but..... I do remember reading reviews of his '70's Massey Hall shows that were occasionally less than complimentary. I remember one review in particular where the writer noted that Gord belched into the microphone and then blamed it on the McDonald's he had just prior to coming on stage....

Sometime in the early or mid 1980s, Lightfoot played at Wolf Trap outside of DC and was pretty throughly bombed. I wasn't at the show, but I've heard about it from enough sources to believe it. Maybe they had trouble finding shows when he was sober.

I'd be interested in this if it was from his heyday, but come on, I'm gonna go with the issue not being that they couldn't find enough shows where he wasn't drunk.

Okay, my last line was meant more or less as a joke. However, you raise a very good point about the short period of time covered by this release. I can't find much more information about it. In fact, this thread in on the first or second page of a Google search. I did find some videos of a show he did in Reno in 2000 that was shown on PBS. His voice is noticeably weaker than when he was in his prime. I still might pick this up because it's so damn cheap, but it would be interesting to hear concerts from the mid-70s to the mid-80s. I love his "Sunday Concert" record.

I finally got around to listening to some of the audio samples of this album online. All I can say is that I barely recognize this as the Gordon Lightfoot that I know and love. I really thought that his voice sounded terrible. I won't be bothering with this one, but I'd love to see a quality release from the 70's or 80's.

Got mine in yesterday's mail--from Amazon. I'm a Lightfoot apologist, so I won't ramble here and bore everyone. I'm glad I bought it. The sound quality is sharply defined and has a very satisfying dynamic range. Gord's voice is recorded very nicely; right up front with no intention to hide anything. The band is tight and on. Gordon is obviously aware that his voice is not the voice of the 70s. My hat is off to him--big time--for believing in what he does enough to put this out, un-retouched. These "live" recordings deserve a listen, or, in my case, repeated listenings.
