Instead of rereleasing this one again , how about remastering the remainder of their back catalog . They have a ton of unreleased stuff that can be added . What are they gonna add to Budokan ? Nothing , a making of dvd , I'll pass .

My understanding is that the DVD is the actual concert which was broadcasted on Japanese TV and booted.

I will grab this if the video concert is remixed and remastered.

I understand fans being suspicious of another repackaging, but I've seen and heard some of this work in progress. It's being held to some pretty high standards.

Linda, who is that in your avatar?

I'm used to seeing cartoon characters.

Could it be the real you?

Well, as a huge Cheap Trick fan, I can't believe I've never owned Budakon, but it's true. I had a taped copy of a friend's album in grade school and that was that. I was so sick of it by high school I never purchased it.
So, I can get this now for real for the first time. Guess I'm one of the few who will benefit from this!
And, Linda-you look way too much like an ex-girlfriend of mine and I briefly got chills (not good ones-she was evil). But, only briefly, as being happily married for many years I can only chuckle at the misery my exes caused me. Ha-ha-ha. See? I can laugh now all these years later. That was proof.
Please tell me your name isn't secretly Donna-if so, I'll never be back to this site!
P.S.
Back to the topic at hand-I wonder what the 3rd disc will have? Perhaps a later appearance?

Curious if the 3 CDs will be
The Original Album (1)
The Complete Concert (2)

Having the Complete Concert, I do miss the original configuration - not like I can't recreate it, but still...

I doubt I'll get this.

So that was you.

My first reaction was "Wow".

And I mean that in a very complimentary way (hope that doesn't sound creepy/inappropriate, that's not my intent).

The cartoon is OK, but I liked the picture better :)

Linda-you could've kept the picture up, but it really did send a chill down my spine! Although she was nuts, Donna was quite pretty, and had excellent musical taste, so take that as a compliment. As for the nuts part, well, if you are, I hope it's in a good way and not scary like her! I couldn't listen to New Order for years because of her, but now that's old, old news and New Order remasters are on the way! How ironic!
But, as for the Cheap Trick, I am interested as to what the 3rd disc could possibly have-although they did play multiple nights at Budokan yes? So, maybe another night is included.

We got all kinds of email from readers who pointed the way to the contents of the upcoming Epic 30th Anniversary Boxset for Live at Budokan by Cheap Trick. The most important of the inclusions in this 1DVD/3CD Box is the DVD that shows the entire concert that the wildly popular original CD was taken from. Previously, this concert had only aired once on Japanese TV. In addition, the DVD offers interviews with the band as they look back on the 1978 event. Two of the CDs provide the entire concert remastered. The third CD actually is the audio counterpart to the film DVD that includes four additional songs not heard on the film. Live at Budokan will arrive in stores on November 11.

“I WANT YOU... TO WANT... ME” ON DVD!

CHEAP TRICK’S BUDOKAN!: 30th ANNIVERSARY EDITION,

5.1 SURROUND SOUND DVD + 3CD PACKAGE CELEBRATES LANDMARK TOKYO CONCERT OF 1978

CHEAP TRICK’S LIVE AT BUDOKAN NOW BECOMES A “SIGHT & SOUND” EVENT AS 1978 CONCERT FOOTAGE IS RELEASED FOR THE FIRST TIME, ALONGSIDE NEWLY MIXED AND MASTERED AUDIO

OF THE ORIGINAL CONCERT ON 3 CDs

DVD features original concert that aired once on Japanese television in 1978 – never aired in U.S. and commercially available for the first time in this package,

plus new 2008 interviews with the band members and other people involved with the landmark concert

Follows historic Cheap Trick concert return to Budokan in April 2008

“Hello There” featured on menu of ‘Rock Band 2’ game streeting in September

Box set available starting November 11, 2008, through Epic/Legacy;

180 gram audiophile vinyl pressing of original LP in stores October 28th

The Live at Budokan album impact catalyzed America, then engulfed the world – and now is celebrated three decades later with a four-disc (DVD + 3 CD) package, BUDOKAN!: 30th ANNIVERSARY EDITION, that brings the sight and sound together for the first time. The set will arrive in stores November 11th through Epic/Legacy, a division of SONY BMG MUSIC ENTERTAINMENT. Separately on October 28th, a new 12-inch vinyl LP of the Live at Budokan original 10-song album will be issued on 180 gram audiophile pressing.

This deluxe package is highlighted by the premiere commercial DVD release of a video recording of the second concert, a one hour 15-song program that was broadcast only once on Japanese television 30 years ago. The stunning DVD artifact features a new stereo mix and 5.1 Surround Sound by original 1978 producer Jack Douglas and engineer Jay Messina. At last, Cheap Trick fans can actually see and feel the moment come to life when – for the first time in history – lead singer Robin Zander exhorts the Japanese audience, “I Want YOU… to Want…ME!”

The DVD is complemented by the bonus documentary feature, “Looking Back,” a new conversation with the band about their original Budokan experience. In addition, there is video of one more song from 1978 (“Come On, Come On”) and two songs from Cheap Trick’s 30th anniversary return concert at Budokan in April 2008 (“Voices” and “If You Want My Love”)

The four-disc package goes on to include (on disc two) a CD that replicates the audio of the DVD in its full 19-song length, also produced by Jack Douglas and Jay Messina. Discs three and four represent the previous 20th anniversary (1998) double-CD Live at Budokan (culled from multiple night’s concerts, as was the original 1978 LP), beautifully remastered in 2008 to sound better than ever, produced by Cheap Trick and Bruce Dickinson.

The November 11th release of 30th ANNIVERSARY EDITION follows – by just over six months – Cheap Trick’s anniversary performance of the album back at Budokan on April 24, 2008. (Ironically, this nearly mirrors the original timetable of the Budokan performances on April 28 and 30, 1978 – which became the classic LP for the Japanese market released October 1978.)

Three decades later, LIVE AT BUDOKAN: 30th ANNIVERSARY EDITION proves how immortal some albums can be. The LP is ranked on Rolling Stone’s list of “500 Greatest Albums Of All Time,” and “Surrender” appears on the magazine’s “500 Greatest Singles Of All Time” list.

I hate to say it because this strikes me as cynical cashing in. But I am soooo tempted by this set.

I'd love to see the DVD portion but don't really need another version of the live CD.
