My wife is salvating at these-this is her favorite band and she got me into them as well. I'm not sure how many Slavo are doing, but this is great news and an excellent chance for anyone curious about the band to start the catalogue.
Fitzcarraldo is one of their best.

Hey IP, I don't know this band. Who would you compare them too?

That's a tough one. I'd say you can hear influences from Van Morrison, Jeff Buckley, Lou Reed, Thin Lizzy, etc.
It's extremely passionate music, sometimes mellow above a whisper, other times, very hard rocking stuff with lots of great drumming, violin and guitar and Glen Hansard's vocals are awesome throughout.
The debut is semi-Arena Rock oriented not close to what they would become. I'd say given a listen to the samples on Amazon especially for Fitzcarraldo and later albums like The Cost and Burn The Maps. It's such good music and writing.

Have you seen the movie "Once?" The star, Glen Hansard, is lead singer of the Frames. The film was also directed by the band's former bassist John Carney. The band's music can also be heard on the soundtrack, although usually it has a bit of a harder edge than what was included in the movie.

The music in Once is much, much mellower than The Frames would typically do even though they play on it. It's a sample of what they sound like, but not much of one-that's more of a Glen Hansard/Marketa Irglova soundtrack. Very good and pretty songs and it led to the Swell Season, but The Frames can rock and Once does not.
