This is posted on Bowienet in 06.28.2010 NEWS:
"EMI will be releasing a standard jewel case version of David Bowie's Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars - The Motion Picture Soundtrack on September 6th to ensure it remains available on catalogue, as supplies of the limited edition box version have long since been exhausted.
This version will most likely contain an eight-page booklet with none of the extras that came with the limited edition box.
All of the Bowie live albums originally released by EMI in special packaging are now available in the standard jewel case format and prices for the original limited versions of the Bowie back-catalogue special packaging CDs are constantly on the rise...particularly the 30th Anniversary editions of the studio albums: Ziggy Stardust, Aladdin Sane and Diamond Dogs which are selling for two to three times their original RRP on Amazon.co.uk."
Not quite sure what it means... a) What is the "limited edition box version" of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars - The Motion Picture Soundtrack? and b) Does this mean there will be regular standard jewel case editions of the 30th anniversary editions of Ziggy Stardust, Aladdin Sane and Diamond Dogs? (Now that would be very welcome as I hate the odd packaging they come in, particularly DD)

I'm ASSUMING they're just discussing packaging.
Be aware that this is a very significant remix compared to both the original official cd release & the bootleg. While I hate doing this, I've kept all 3 versions due to the 3 mixes. While I really prefer the mix on the boot, the overall sound of every version of the boot I've found has been pretty bad, so I consider the current version the best compromise between the 3 versions out there, with the Ryko cd/RCA LP being the worst of the 3 mixes.
I'll never forget the 1st time I heard the RCA LP. I had been waiting for an official release of this show for years. I was so upset I called a friend who was also a huge Bowie fan & complained bitterly for around half an hour.
The 2 issues in the mixes are backup vocals that are absent on the boot & very prominent on the RCA/Ryko (I SUSPECT they're overdubbed, but i don't know for certain), & Ronson 's guitar was badly out of tune in places, so it's largely absent on the Ryko/RCA but imo no guitar, no Ziggy.

Yes, but what about the packaging?....is the current issue not in a plain jewel case?

EMI reissued the soundtrack in 2003 as a mini-box set w/ plastic slipcase. Each CD has its own cardboard sleeve, and the discs themselves are tinted red (a throwback to the good ol' days of colored vinyl). Also included is a two-sided poster and a concert ticket reproduction. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00007MF8Y/?tag=imwan-20
