Coming of May 3, 2010, are the next two Deluxe Editions in the ongoing Saint Etienne release program.

Finisterre is a love/hate letter to London, with its iconic image of the collapsed Ronan Point on the cover, recorded at a time of mass demonstrations against the government and just after folk hero Ken Livingstone had been elected Mayor.

Alternately harsh and gentle, electronic and thrumming, it includes the nu-disco call-to-arms single 'Action'.

The album accompanies Saint Etienne's film of the same name, a 'psycho-geographical' drama that documents the journey from the suburbs, before the commuter rush, into London and captures all of the mesmerising and grimy sights, the DNA of a city that is both inspiring and engulfing.

Saint Etienne's third album, Tiger Bay is an adventurous departure from their previous releases, mixing traditional folk, modern electronic, panoramic orchestral arrangements and '70s dreamy disco, featuring the intense techno sound of 'Pale Movie', whimsical disco-fusion single 'Hug My Soul' and the new wave meets old school hip hop 'Like A Motorway'.

This Deluxe remastered CD album includes the original 10 track album and a second CD of rarities, b-sides and previously unreleased material, including alternative version of 'Pale Movie' and 'Hug My Soul', the revived sequel to 'Mario's Cafe' called 'Black Horse Latitudes', plus Sarah Cracknell's duet with Tim Burgess, 'I Was Born On Christmas Day'.

This edition also features extensive sleeve notes, making it a 'must-have' for all Saint Etienne collectors and completists.

Referencing the 1959 film of the same name, Tiger Bay sees Saint Etienne combining traditional English folk songs with early '90s house beats and techno, using acoustic guitars, mandolins and orchestral backing, alongside synths and drum machines, creating a hypnotic and mesmerising atmosphere.

Sarah Cracknell says: "It was very specific, we had a plan to use folk melodies and quite a lot of techno and we also wanted to get other people to do mixes of certain things."

Good to see these releases continuing. Am I to assume that the Finisterre Deluxe Edition will also be available in a two-disc version without the DVD? I already have the Finisterre film which, amazingly, was released by an American DVD label a few years ago.

Tiger Bay has long been Etienne's most confusing release, as there have been at least three different versions from various countries, with various tracks added or subtracted. Some (but not all) of these stray tracks now appear on Disc 2, and I guess we can assume that Disc 1 is what the band actually intended.

Needless to say, I want them all...

The way I understand it is that the version of FINISTERRE ordered from anywhere other than Universal Direct UK, will be the 2-disc set.
