It appears that this one may have finally gotten an official, albeit limited release. (3500 copies) It's a bit pricey for what's on it, but I had to indulge myself. If you want this, order quickly though, because this company's limited runs do sell out. http://www.screenarchives.com/title_detail.cfm/ID/13341/CADDYSHACK/(At the same time, I ordered soundtracks for "Blazing Saddles" and "Spaceballs". Looks like a pattern.)

Well, it has Ted Knight on the cover artwork. How many CDs can claim that as a selling point, eh?

There's 3 other songs attributed to Kenny Loggins: "Lead the Way," "Make the Move," and "Mr. Night." Dunno offhand if these have appeared on any other Loggins album.

All of which sound suspiciously like "I'm All Right".

I also like Johnny Mandel's work, I may need to spring for this.

IIRC, "Mr. Night" was on the "Keep The Fire" album, best known for having the hit single "This Is It" and the other two tracks recently showed up on the Wounded Bird reissue of "Vox Humana". I was happy to get to order this soundtrack in its original form though, but I am just another collecting knucklehead.

"Make a Move" is more similar, and "Mr. Night" was actually released on the 1979 album "Keep the Fire". "Lead the Way" and "Make a Move" were added as bonus tracks on the Wounded Bird edition of "Vox Humana," but they sound very flat as most of their released are not remastered, just a run of the tape. My ripped vinyl versions sound much better. This soundtrack is supposed to be remastered, so I will pick it up.

My soundtrack to Caddyshack arrived today. (Along with the others I ordered.) I have to say that overall, I'm impressed. I didn't listen to the CD that critically, but it sounded find to my old ears. What I really loved though was the substantive 16-page booklet with lots of notes and quotes about and from the movie. One small disappointment...the description for the Hilly Michaels track, "Something On Your Mind" reads as follows:
"The zany, mock-classical synths of former Sparks drummer Hilly Michaels provides the power pop gas for Al's motorboat The Seafood, which wreaks havoc on the marina's skiers and boaters before finally dropping anchor on the top of the judge's boat. While only the song's instrumental was used in Caddyshack, the complete version here allows Michael's breathless vocals to join in with the Baroque-on-speed absurdity."
Okay...what's wrong with this picture? This is a movie soundtrack. It's fine that they included the vocal version of this track, though I don't remember if this is the same version on the original vinyl soundtrack if there was one, but why not ALSO include the actual instrumental track as it was used in the movie? The stated time on the back of the case is 31:05, so they certainly had room for the instrumental version!
Overall though, I'm happy to finally have this one. The company that made this one, La-La Land Records, did a really nice job with the presentation of this title. I'll be watching for more of their releases and hope that maybe they'll be the ones to finally bring the Meatballs soundtrack to CD.

Must be the Johnny Mandel who also composed the M*A*S*H OST.

Indeed, Googa! Johnny also recently arranged the orchestral tracks for Barbra Streisand's latest album, and has arranging credits for everybody from Frank Sinatra to Elvis Costello -- besides the theme and score to MASH, his most famous composition may be "The Shadow Of Your Smile."

Oh, I love that song, "The Shadow of Your Smile". That's from the Liz Taylor movie, "The Sandpiper". Who sang the definitive version of that one?

Got the REMASTERED, Limited Edition, copy of the Caddyshack Soundtrack in the mail the other day. I've been wanting to add this one to my collection for some time now. It sounds great and has a nice booklet with it. It was a bit expensive, but it was worth it since only 3,500 were pressed.

What I'd really like to see is reissues of the Hilly Michaels records. Wounded Bird? Collector's Choice? Anyone?

Asylum Records issued a soundtrack album to High Anxiety in 1978, which included a number of "greatest hits" from other Mell Brooks movies. The LP was a cutout-bin staple for some time, and has never been issued on CD. Track listing 1. High Anxiety Main Title (03:01) 2. High Anxiety (02:32) sung by Mel Brooks 3. Anxious Theme (02:55) 4. If You Love Me baby, Tell Me Loud (01:33) 5. End Title (02:38) 6. Springtime for Hitler (03:24) from "The Producers" 7. Prisoners of Love (02:25) from "The Producers" 8. Hope for the Best, Expect the Worst (02:38) from "The Twelve Chairs" 9. Vorobyaninov's Theme (A Walk Through Russia) (03:15) from "The Twelve Chairs" 10. Blazing Saddles Main Title (02:20) sung by Frankie Laine 11. The French Mistake (00:31) from "Blazing Saddles" 12. I'm Tired (04:36) from "Blazing Saddles," sung by Madeline Kahn 13. Young Frankenstein Main Title (02:54) 14. Puttin' on the Ritz (03:34) sung by Gene Wilder and Peter Boyle 15. Silent Movie, Burt Reynold's House (02:16) 16. Silent Movie March (02:58)

Screen Archives/Film Score Monthly is selling La-La Land Records' expanded CD reissues of the soundtracks to both BLAZING SADDLES and SPACEBALLS; perhaps we can hope that a HIGH ANXIETY disc comes next? In any event, a Mel Brooks "Greatest Hits" compilation like the old Asylum LP seems like a no-brainer...
