If you're not nice
This thread had never been updated with the finalised release details, so I've done that now (see first post), and am bumping the thread to coincide with our thread for the similar Camel box set which was also overseen by Esoteric label manager Mark Powell:
The Caravan box has sadly already gone out of print -- Amazon Canada still has one remaining in stock as I post this -- but copies are plentiful among third party sellers, and the prices aren't unreasonable.

Strongly recommend the Caravan set. As some know Steve Wilson did a 5.1 mix of "In the Land of Grey and Pink" so does what that tell you.

One minor note on the track listing. The Disc 1 song Can't Be Too Long Now is actually the complete studio version of the Caravan signature tune, For Richard. It originally was listed as a four song suite, comprising Can't Be Too Long Now, Francoise, For Richard & Warlock . So with this box you not only get the original version, but the Live w/ the New Symphonia version. Probably my favorite Caravan song. I didn't hear the song until I was in my late 30s, but for some reason it always reminds me of being 17. And while I'm bloviating, my all time favorite version is the one they performed for a British television program back in 1990 (god, almost 25 years ago now), with the original four band members reunited (Hastings, Coughlan, D. Sinclair & R. Sinclair) plus brother Jimmy Hastings on woodwinds (just like the album version). Thirteen minutes of heaven from the Caravan Live album on Demon Records. RIP Richard Coughlan, your drumming lives on....

Without going through my collection album by album, is there much unreleased that wasn't included as bonus material, when Universal remastered the catalog last time, i.e. is there enough "exclusive-to-this-release" to make it worthwhile?

Based on the title listings on the box, the unreleased material is:
1) A BBC session version of The Love in Your Eye: 11min / 27 sec. 2) A song called Any Advance on Carpet: 9 min / 7 sec.
There have been so many archive releases over the years that if you have a complete set of their BBC session discs you've probably got the rest of the live material covered. But it is a nice package, Mark Powell's liner notes are great as usual, so I'd recommend it, even for the hard core fan. And if you don't have any Caravan material already, it's an essential purchase.

To complete the picture for collectors who have gotten the box set, here's the authorised Caravan documentary Where But For Caravan Would I. The group had originally released this as a fan club-only VHS tape in 2000, and now they've uploaded it to YouTube for everybody's enjoyment:

After reading the comments here and also a review by musician/journalist Julian Cope, who had high praise for the two unreleased tracks — "Any Advance on the Carpet" is actually an instrumental reworking of a Richard Sinclair-penned Hatfield & the North track, "Bossa Nochance" — I decided to spring for it before the prices climbed even higher. So, here's my money-saving tip of the day: get it from Amazon in Germany. They still have it in stock, and after deducting the European VAT charge, the total with shipping to the US came to $40.94, $10 less than the cheapest current Amazon US private dealer's $47.08-plus-$3.99 shipping price: http://www.amazon.de/World-Yours-Carava ... d+is+Yours

"Derzeit nicht auf Lager." That's sold out too.
Hmmm, that wasn't there when I placed the order. Either I got the last copy, or when they went to the stock to fill it, realized they were out of it. I got an order confirmation e-mail but not a "your order has shipped" one. We'll see...

Well, now that you mention it, the same comments I made for the Caravan box apply identically to the Camel box set. Between the reissues and the Camel Bootleg series, I'm pretty sure all the material has been previously released. But Pete Barden's Homage to the God of LIght is a great 19 minute Camel jam that may be worth the price of admission for anybody who doesn't already have it. The Mark Powell notes are good, the package is solid, etc., etc., etc. If you don't have any Camel, it's an excellent place to start.
Now if only I was gif capable I'd throw in the "What Day Is It" or ("What Time Is It" for movie goers) camel...
