Product Description
Having done complete singles collections on such great ‘60s singles bands as Jan & Dean, Gary Lewis & the Playboys and Jay & the Americans to rapturous applause from the collector community, we knew which group they were “hungry” for next —it had to be Paul Revere & the Raiders! And, with all due respect to those previous collections, we think this one might the best set yet! Once again, Ed Osborne is your annotator and curator for this triple-disc collection, which features all 62 commercially-released A and B sides the band recorded for Columbia in its various incarnations (as Paul Revere & the Raiders, Paul Revere & the Raiders Featuring Mark Lindsay, the Raiders, etc.), plus their two Special Products tracks 'Corvair Baby' and 'SS396' and two bonus tracks, commercial jingles for Mattell's “Swingy Doll” and the “Pontiac Judge GTO Breakaway Commercial” for GM. As with our previous collections, all singles appear in their original mono taken from original tapes (on the first two discs) and original stereo from original tapes (on the last disc), with invaluable assistance provided by Columbia vault-'meister' and engineer 'extaordinaire' Bob Irwin. Copious liner notes featuring new, exclusive interviews with Raiders Paul Revere, Mark Lindsay, Phil “Fang” Volk, Keith Allison, Jim “Harpo” Valley and manager Roger Hart accompany, festooned with rare photos. It's the definitive collection from one of the great American rock bands, and remember—many of these original single versions have never appeared on CD! Includes 'Louie, Louie; Night Train; Louie—Go Home; Have Love, Will Travel; Over You; Swim; Sometimes; Oo Poo Pah Doo; Steppin' Out; Blue Fox; SS396; Corvair Baby; Just Like Me; B.F.D.R.F. Blues; Kicks; Shake It Up; Hungry; There She Goes; The Great Airplane Strike; In My Community; Good Thing; Undecided Man; Ups and Downs; Leslie; Him or Me—What's It Gonna Be?; Legend of Paul Revere; I Had a Dream; Upon Your Leaving; Peace of Mind; Do unto Others; Rain, Sleet, Snow; Brotherly Love; Too Much Talk; Happening ‘68; Don't Take It So Hard; Observation from Flight 285 (in 3/4 Time); Cinderella Sunshine; It's Happening; Mr. Sun, Mr. Moon; Without You; Let Me; I Don't Know; We Gotta All Get Together; Frankfort Side Street; Just Seventeen; Sorceress with Blue Eyes; Gone Movin' On; Interlude (to be Forgotten); Indian Reservation (The Lament of the Cherokee Reservation Indian); Terry's Tune; Birds of a Feather; The Turkey; Country Wine; It's So Hard Getting Up Today; Powder Blue Mercedes Queen; Golden Girls Sometimes; Song Seller; A Simple Song; Love Music; Goodbye, No. 9; (If I Had to Do It All Over Again, I'd Do It) All Over You; Seaboard Line Boogie; Your Love (Is the Only Love)', and 'Gonna Have a Good Time'. 66 tracks!

I quite enjoy these "Complete Singles" comps from Collectors' Choice. This one goes on the list.

The cover and tracklisting are up at the Collector's Choice Music site -- they are showing it as a 2-disc set in one place and the describing it a 3-disc set elsewhere:

The finalised track listing is in the first post now. It's a 3CD set with 66 tracks. -- Linda

Pricing corresponds with the 3-disc Jay & The Americans set rather than the 2-disc Gary Lewis & The Playboys set.

I was hoping the artist billing meant that this would include Mark Lindsay's solo singles, but that doesn't appear to be the case.

"Silver Bird" was his other solo hit.

Having seen him last week at Epcot...count me in.

I have a double cd set the the sound quality is...not good...the mix and the greatest hits (both lp and expanded cd) and that's it. This looks like a great deal.

Hopefully someone can review before anyone buys for sound quality. As I've posted before, I loved there V-Disc series, but there Wendy Waldman series was very bright/compressed.

I believed Jimbo has a early promo on this. Want to weigh in Jimbo?

Rick A.

PS I have both the Tommy James and Gary Lewis singles sets and I am very happy with them.

This wipes the two previous Paul Revere and the Raiders CD issues off the face of the map. It does justice to a great body of music. I just listened to "Kicks," "Hungry," "Good Thing," Ups and Downs," "Him or Me," and "I Had A Dream." The sound is stunning. The way it was meant to be heard. I highly recommend this wonderfully remastered collection to any serious 60s music collector. It falls in the must-have category. Comparable to the Stones' 2002 remasters. God, why didn't anyone ever recognize "I Had A Dream"??!! It is arguably the most underappreciated rock song of its era. Listen to the Hammond B3 on this song--it has never been played better on a rock recording--"Green Onions" included. Wow--I'm gonna listen to it again right now! Buy this set. You will not be sorry.
