PREMIATA FORNERIA MARCONI, better known in English speaking countries as P.F.M., were arguably the finest Italian Progressive rock band of the 1970's and certainly one of the most well known. A successful act in their home land, they came to international attention when they signed to EMERSON, LAKE and PALMER's label MANTICORE in 1973, recording a series of albums with English lyrics, some penned by ELP and KING CRIMSON lyricist PETE SINFIELD.

Over the next four years they released four studio albums and a live recording for the label, and it is from these albums that this 2CD anthology is drawn. In addition, four previously unreleased live recordings from the MANTICORE vaults also grace this collection, along with the CD debut of a rare B-side to a UK single.

With a lavish booklet featuring many previously unseen photographs and memorabilia, "River Of Life" is an essential release and a precursor to the reissuing of all of P.F.M.'s albums by ESOTERIC/MANTICORE in 2010, newly re-mastered and featuring previously unreleased bonus tracks not featured on this anthology.

This comp might be just part of a larger campaign; I'm pretty sure CHOCOLATE KINGS was just reissued, as well.

Indeed it is - Esoteric reissued PHOTOS OF GHOSTS, THE WORLD BECAME THE WORLD and JET LAG in expanded form on March 29th. CHOCOLATE KINGS is supposed to be released on April 26th and will contain a bonus disc of live cuts taken from an unreleased concert album recorded at Nottingham University in 1976 (a few cuts from this concert are featured on the 2nd disc of RIVER OF LIFE).

I did pick-up River Of Life: The Manticore Years Anthology 1973-1977
and was very happy with it. Will get other titles as they are released through the year.
