I'm wondering if the Unplugged will be like the recent Dylan re-release where it included the dvd. I have to say, Stewart's unplugged is very good.

I hope it's not just the DVD. I would rather see an expanded audio portion. I'm sure more was recorded than was released. I could give a s--- about the DVD.

Oh I agree. I never picked up the Dylan re-release for the same reason - plus I already had the DVD. But it better be more than a track or two, else I'm passing.

Warner Bros. Spotlights Stewart's Intimate 1993 Acoustic Performance

ROD STEWART, UNPLUGGED...AND UNFORGETTABLE

Warner Bros. Spotlights Stewart's Intimate 1993 Acoustic Performance
With Remastered Collector's Edition, Including Two Bonus Songs, Plus the
Original Broadcast on DVD for the First Time Ever

Available March 10 From Rhino Records

LOS ANGELES -- More than 20 years after Rod Stewart achieved
superstardom, the shag-topped rocker took to the stage at Universal
Studios in Los Angeles for a performance filmed for MTV's Unplugged
series. The stellar concert featured a reunion with guitarist Ron Wood
-- with whom Stewart played in the Jeff Beck Group and the Faces -- and
resulted in a hit album that peaked at #2 on the Billboard album charts
and contained a Top 10 cover of Van Morrison's "Have I Told You Lately."

Warner Bros. captures the excitement and emotion of Stewart's ebullient
performance with a Collector's Edition that contains a remastered and
expanded version of the original album. Also included is the DVD debut
of the performance, which aired on MTV but has never been released in
any format. The CD features two songs that did not appear on the
original album. UNPLUGGED. . .AND SEATED will be available March 10 from
all retail outlets, including http://www.rhino.com.

Recorded February 1993, UNPLUGGED. . .AND SEATED encompasses many of
Stewart's most beloved songs, such as "Maggie May," "Every Picture Tells
A Story," "Tonight's The Night," and "Hot Legs." The Collector's Edition
includes two tracks on the CD not included on the original: "Gasoline
Alley," the B-side of the single "Have I Told You Lately"; and the
previously unissued "Forever Young."

For the performance, Stewart took his position on a stool in the middle
of a small army of musicians -- nine core players, three male backing
vocalists, and a full string section. The intimate setting put the focus
on Stewart and his ability to fully inhabit a song, while also
illuminating the songs that had come to define him; those he'd written
himself ("Mandolin Wind"), and those he'd made his own ("Have I Told You
Lately" written by Van Morrison).

This was a special occasion in another way, marking the reunion of
Stewart and his longtime friend Ron Wood. Since the breakup of the Faces
in 1975, the former partners had seldom performed together, with Wood
joining the Rolling Stones fulltime. Near the end of the show, the duo
lead a spirited version of the Faces' classic rave-up, "Stay With Me,"
that peaks with Stewart jumping off his seat. The show closes with a
triumphant cover of "Having A Party," originally recorded by Sam Cooke,
one of Stewart's idols.

What's special about the Storyteller box that day?

play.co.uk lists two new Collector's editions for released on June 29th:

Atlantic Crossing
A night on the town.

Finally, some of the studio vault material may be heard!

These albums are quite short so their is plenty of room for additional material (although they are flagged as Collector's editions rather than expanded and remastered which steers me toward thinking that they may be 2cd packages..

2-disc editions of these two would be great news. Speaking of "Collector's Editions," has anyone here thought about putting together an "IMWAN Collector's Edition" track listing for Rod Stewart? Is there a good online rarities discography that would serve the same purpose? I have dozens of stray tracks by him from various comps, CD singles, etc., but have never compiled them and have no idea how complete the stuff I have might be.

ciao.se has these releases as being 2 disc - that's the first confirmation that they will be doubles..which means loads of new material - otherwise they'd just squeeze a few tracks onto he single CD!

David, I'd love to see a track list of what you have. Then maybe some of us could add to it.

I'd like C.E.'s on the Mercury albums.

Bump: the [lilred]Unplugged Collector's Edition[/lilred] is coming out tomorrow, and I've added the cover art and Amazon ordering link to rs4951's post further up this thread. (Also merged the later thread which had begun for forthcoming releases in this series so we have them all in one place.)

Not sure, I can't find any info for a new edition of Storyteller so I've removed the mention of that from this thread's subject line. Perhaps it's slated for expansion by Rhino later in this reissue series? rs4951, fill us in if you know ...

Storyteller: dates changed twice so far. Latest is June 30th. Can't see this being anything other than a straight re-reissue.
The other 2 boxsets that were promised will be more interesting I suspect.

Given that we have had / will have releases every three months or so, it looks like each quarter through 2009 and 2010 will see some sets - be it boxed or collector's editions.

Can anyone here tell me if Ronnie Wood performs on Forever Young? Forever Young (if featuring RW) would be the only reason I'd buy this set, as I already have the other "bonus" track on a CD single. This doesn't include the other non-lp b-sides featuring Ron Wood, unfortunately. Collectors might want to look on ebay to complete this collection.

Sure, Earl. Have been putting it together over the past couple of weeks and burned it this weekend, Four discs in one case sure beats having it spread across the shelves and on another 20 or so discs in a box under the bed. The Booket T. tracks are crappy downloads, but I couldn't bring myself to leave 'em off because the performances are so good. I really hope those turn up on the expanded "Atlantic Crossing." I'd pay the 30 bucks that set will no doubt cost for "Holy Cow" alone.

This compilation omits Faces, obviously, and anything covered by the "1964-1969" comp and the "Storyteller" box. The live tracks are just a group of things I have from various formats and like. There's so much live RS material, I'd never attempt anything comprehensive with it. As for the studio stuff, I know I'm missing the Wendy Matthews duet on "My Heart Stood Still" from the Australian version of the second "Songbook." Thought I'd ordered it off ebay, got and returned the American version that was sent, and have basically given up on that track for now. If anyone has suggestions for other missing studio tracks, post away...

Disc 1
1. It’s All Right (Steampacket, from Westwood One’s “60s at the BEEB, Volume 3”) 2. I Just Got Some (with spoken intro) 3. Please note: "Sparky Rides"(Actual title "Donkey Rides, A Penny a Glass") is not by Rod. It's by "Small Faces"(with Steve Marriott). Any so-called "Rod Stewart" or "Faces" tracks on Springboard" label L.P.'s are actually by "Small Faces". And I would know. I'm the compiler of the UK 4-CD box set "Small Faces-The Immediate Years" on the "Charly" label.

Great compilation. A few others that could appear on a Warner-era boxset or on collector's editions would be:
Remixes of Lost in you, Forever young, Crazy About her Every Beat of my heart, Da ya think, Love touch, Motown song.
The extended version of Passion from the Foolish Behaviour cassette.
So far away ( I know it appeared on If we fall in love tonight - but only in the States)
The pre-final mixes of songs from the Human and New Boys albums (nine songs from each)

Japanese reissues of albums from 1970-1982 on SHM-CD out since end of Feb.
Some of the mercury albums have bonus tracks - but all are previously available elsewhere.
Seems strange to bring these out in the middle of the Rhino campaign..
