This looks to be a DVD/Blu-Ray and then a double-live CD. Not sure if it's the same day or not. While Maiden are overkilling the live albums, I'll get it because they're so good. Might be cool to find a theater showing this next week, but I'm not paying more than $10 which means I won't be going.

From FMQB:
Iron Maiden will follow the April 21 theatrical debut if its new documentary, Flight 666, with a DVD and soundtrack release of the film. DVD and Blu-Ray editions will come out on May 26, and they will include bonus material and additional concert footage. A limited edition DVD will also be available, as well as a two-CD companion album of live material and a two-LP picture disc. Iron Maiden: Flight 666 will be shown in theaters worldwide on April 21 only. Locations are listed at ironmaiden.com. Meanwhile, the group is enjoying some time off but plans to start writing a new album in November.

Product Description
FLIGHT 666 documents the first leg of Maiden's legendary SOMEWHERE BACK IN TIME WORLD TOUR which took them 50,000 miles round the planet playing 23 concerts on five continents in just 45 days. One of the stars of the movie is the band's customized Boeing 757, Ed Force One, which carried the band, all their crew and 12 tons of stage equipment and was piloted by Maiden vocalist Bruce Dickinson, a fully qualified and active Airline Captain with Astraeus Airlines.

Taking you on a visual global tour from Mumbai to Sydney, Tokyo to L.A., Mexico City to Costa Rica, Bogota to Sao Paulo, Buenos Aires and Santiago to New York and Toronto and places in-between, you travel with the band and crew on the plane, to and from shows, in the bar and during leisure time, while experiencing the exhaustion and fan pandemonium that comes with such a mission.

As a very special bonus for the fans, Maiden have included a second disc of the entire set from the 2008 segment of this tour with the DVD. Sixteen songs from sixteen different cities in eleven countries around the world, for the first time ever encompassing such varied places and cultures in one concert.

Much more info from Blabbermouth.net:

"Iron Maiden: Flight 666", the feature-length documentary film which follows the IRON MAIDEN bandmembers on the first leg of their "Somewhere Back In Time World Tour" in February and March of 2008, will be released on extended Blu-ray and DVD formats, alongside a double-CD soundtrack album and limited edition double-vinyl picture disc. It will be available Monday, May 25 on EMI Records in Europe, and Tuesday, June 9 on EMI Records Canada and UMe in the USA.

For "Iron Maiden: Flight 666", IRON MAIDEN was accompanied everywhere by award-winning documentary makers Banger Productions from Toronto in Canada, who have received international critical acclaim for their previous movies "Metal: A Headbanger's Journey" and recently "Global Metal". Producer/presenter Sam Dunn and his team bring an intimate, behind-the-scenes view of this remarkable journey, with a close look at the logistics involved and following Team Maiden in the cockpit, on the plane and on and offstage, getting to the heart of this global adventure of a band that has very rarely even let cameras backstage before.

Shot in high definition and with superb 5.1 surround sound, mixed by the band's producer Kevin "Caveman" Shirley, "Flight 666" brings to the screen all the drama, excitement and hysteria that followed the band around the world every time Ed Force One (the band's plane) touched down in a new country. The film documents the intensity of the punishing show schedules, the struggle with the time zones, the pressures of ensuring that every performance matched the energy of the many thousands of ecstatic and expectant fans from many cultural backgrounds, unusual angles from the spectacular shows... and, of course, the fun had on the way!

A special international "Iron Maiden Day" is being planned for April 21 with simultaneous showings of "Iron Maiden: Flight 666" in selected digital cinemas around the world.

As a very special bonus for the fans, MAIDEN has included a second disc of the entire set from the 2008 segment of this tour with the DVD (and as a long-play Blu-ray). Sixteen songs from sixteen different cities in eleven countries around the world, for the first time ever encompassing such varied places and cultures in one concert. (See full track listing below). In addition to a standard double DVD, EMI will release a special souvenir limited-edition deluxe DVD with 30-page booklet. The soundtrack audio version of the live show will be available on two CDs, as a limited-edition vinyl set with two picture discs, and a digital download especially for those fans who do not have DVD access or just want to enjoy the show as a great live album. All are lavishly packaged as an ultimate memento of a tour to remember!

To recognize the global phenomenon of MAIDEN, the Blu-ray/DVD are also subtitled in Hindi, Japanese, Dutch, German, Spanish, Brazilian, French, Italian, Portuguese and Swedish.

Comments band manager Rod Smallwood; "It's been a mammoth undertaking. From the first twinkle in Bruce's eye it's taken about three years to put band, crew and equipment in a giant flying 'splitter bus', to go through all the long and tiresome prep and safety regulations and planning, to the actual filming and of the tour itself, through to post production and right up to putting together all these items in the very best quality possible for our fans."

"It's great that with Maiden Day on Tuesday April 21, we can give our fans the opportunity of seeing this digitally on big screen in Hi Def with the full-on 5.1 sound experience with other fans around them. It was also very rewarding that it has won the prestigious SXSW Film Festival Award for Best Music Documentary.

"The 'Somewhere Back in Time Tour' reached almost 2 million fans in 39 countries and, if there is one thing l know from managing MAIDEN all these years, it's that our fans are not happy to wait too long, so we are delighted that EMI (Ume USA) are rush-releasing the DVD. This closes the chapter on an absolutely brilliant experience delving into the past for the band, myself and my team, the crew and hopefully all of you fans out there. After the summer and some deserved time off, we will concentrate on the 'new,' with the band starting to put together material for a brand new studio album due sometime later in 2010. And, of course, after that we will look forward to seeing all our fans again!!"

The film "Flight 666" is being released in the following manner:

* Long-play Blu-ray with "Flight 666: The Film" and "Flight 666: The Concert" (215 minutes)

* Double DVD

- Disc One: "Flight 666: The Film" (112 minutes)
- Disc Two: "Flight 666: The Concert" (104 minutes)

* Plus limited-edition deluxe double DVD of the above with special packaging and 30-page booklet

* "Flight 666: The Original Soundtrack" album - Double CD*

* "Flight 666: The Original Soundtrack" album - Limited Edition Double Vinyl Picture Disc

Thanks for this info about one of my favorite bands!

This is the link for direct access to where the movie is playing on "Iron Maiden day" (next Tuesday):
http://www.ironmaiden.com/flight666/

Unfortunately I don't see anything in there near where I am (Philadelphia, PA, USA).

One of my favorites as well-first saw 'em in 1983. You must be somewhat near me (Cherry Hill, NJ-about 10 min. from Philly)-we'll have to see a Philly show of someone at some point!
Up The Irons!

Judging from our similar musical tastes I bet we've inhaled the same air at a couple hundred Philly concerts over the years! I've lived in the Philly area most of my life, although not downtown proper, mostly in suburban outskirts, and am now out in the "boondocks" about an hour away from downtown. I don't go downtown for many concerts anymore though, am getting too old to put up with much of the downtown concert-going related hassles.

On a related note I'm bummed that CHICKENFOOT are playing downtown at the TLA next month. I actually like that place (as compared to say a major dump like the Electric Factory), but don't think I can put up with the parking hassles that come with a TLA show anymore. Would like to see Satch in the TLA again though, that was where I first saw him, from the front row, back in the 80s when the TLA still had seats in there. Those were the glory daze....

So when are they going to finish the documentary? I have part one (The Early Days). Part two is part of the Live After Death DVD. When is Part 3 coming?

How did you know (before you opened it) that it was the version with the full booklet???

Supposedly there are two seperate 2 DVD versions, one "limited" with a large booklet and one without the booklet. But I still can't figure out how to tell which is which, or who is selling what (sigh). Does anyone know?????

At Best Buy today they had all formats of this and there was a collector's edition with the 24 page booklet in a hardbound book-style case.

Thanks for that info! So the one with the booklet does look different than a normal DVD plastic case?

Do you recall what the price was for that "collector's edition" (aka: "deluxe edition")??

Borders has it at a sale price of $15.99, or there's a 40% coupon for Borders Rewards members that makes it $11.99, which is what I think Best Buy has it for. Not sure what Circuit City is selling it f...never mind.

I felt better giving the money to Borders.

"Bad news, everyone!" (quoting Professor Farnsworth of Futurama, which means this is good news....)

It is not hard to distinguish the "deluxe edition" from the regular edition after all. I just got mine at BestBuy today. It is the sale price of $11.99, no more than the "regular edition" which at this point I don't think even exists here in the USA yet (????).

The "deluxe edition" looks like a hardbound book - it is NOT in a regular DVD style case. The booklet itself is bound into the jacket of the case, and the packaging for the whole thing just looks like a small hardback book. It is instantly recognizable. In addition, there is a blue sticker on the outside seal that says "limited edition 24 page souvenier deluxe 2-dvd release".

I did not see any of the "non-deluxe" editions at the BB I went to. Also from talking to a few friends who've looked in other stores (some BB, some FYE or others) all anyone I know has seen (here in the USA at least) is this hardbound "deluxe" version.

It's a shame that Maiden's website did not make this all clearer, and that was the chief source of my confusion. Looking at their webpage again now, after seeing the "deluxe edition" in person, you can see that it is a BOOK if you look very closely at the one picture that they show of it lying down & opened (you can see the inner spine).

http://www.ironmaiden.com/666formats.htm

I don't understand why they don't show it with the blue sticker on it that clearer identifies it, but maybe that sticker is a USA only thing. .

Also I'm not sure if this is an update or not, but reading the Maiden page again, I see that it says this about the deluxe edition:

"Released by EMI Records in the UK and Internationally on 25th May, and 9th June by Universal in the USA and EMI Canada"

but it says this about the "standard DVD" version:

"Released by EMI Records in the UK and Internationally on 25th May, 9th June in Canada, and 7th July by Universal in the USA."

So it would appear that in the USA at least for the next month or so, the only DVD version you should be able to get (not counting the blueray) is the "deluxe" one. Elsewhere in the world (or after July 7th in US) I guess you need to be careful which one you buy if you want the "deluxe" one because multiple versions may be on the shelves (????).

All in all mucho unnecessary confusion for myself and many fans that I know, but I'm glad I was able to get it sorted out. I don't know which version you'll be getting if you order from on-line from places like Amazon though.....although I noticed that FYE's website specifically DOES say it is the "deluxe" one, I guess you have to cross your fingers and hope for the best.

One more confusing point though - the Maiden website says the deluxe one comes with a "stitched 30 page souvenir booklet". This is not what the sticker on it says ("24-page souvenier deluxe 2-dvd release"). Could there be yet another version with 6 extra pages???? If so, I don't even want to know....

The deluxe DVD set was selling for less than the 2-CD set at J&R today (11.99 to 12.99, IIRC).

I'm hoping Netflix eventually gets the Blu version.
