[bigred]Creatures Of The Street[/bigred] [lilred]September 16, 2008[/lilred] After Jobriath's bid to become America's answer to glam rock on his debut album failed, he gave it one more shot before disappearing into the night. For someone trying to shore up a career, he made a surprisingly ambitious, uncommercial album in CREATURES OF THE STREET. It ventures beyond the sonic confines of glam into a sound that's simultaneously more outsized and more personal, but still full of that good old mid-'70s decadence.

[bigred]Jobriath[/bigred] [lilred]September 30, 2008[/lilred] Jobriath was supposed to be America's answer to British glam rock, a Stateside David Bowie, with all the glittery, androgynous trappings (in fact, he's said to have been the first openly gay rocker). The bid failed, and Jobriath released only two albums. He died of AIDS in 1983, but his work gained posthumous appreciation, and Morrissey himself initially spearheaded the reissue of Jobriath's first, self-titled album, an ambitious, endearingly over-the-top, eclectic glam artifact that could only have happened in the the mid-'70s.
