With "Twilight" star Kristen Stewart taking on the role of Joan Jett in the biopic "The Runaways", I am curious as to whether Joan Jett's catalogue of albums will be reissued / remastered / expanded ?

Now is either the right time to buy her CDs used, before the film makes her more popular -- OR -- now is the time to avoid buying any of her CDs until expanded remasters come out. Anyone know which plan is best?

I haven't heard anything, but her official site probably wouldn't say anything in advance. I know almost all of her CDs appeared in Japan a few years ago with a few bonus tracks each, so there's material out there to justify expanding the American editions. And she has interesting archives, with plenty of fanclub-only EPs and such that come out now and then when they come across interesting tapes.

I think I read that Joan was going to release a new compilation with a few new tracks. It would be nice if she'd release a CD of NEW material! "Naked" came out in Japan in 2004 and "Sinner", featuring many of the same songs, came out here in 2006.

She was gigantic at my school back in 1981. What a year that was!

Jett's early catalog titles have been reissued several times on CD. The ones on Universal from the late 90s have a bunch of bonus tracks. Pretty sure the latest reissues have bonus tracks too, but I dunno if they're the same.

I have her first four albums that were reissued in 1992 on Boardwalk Records, with loads of bonus tracks and full lyric booklets. I think the later reissues kept the bonus tracks, but scrapped the lyrics (though they were included as a pdf on the disc).

I think the Blackheart-supervised reissues from the 90s with tons of bonus tracks were limited to her first 4 albums -- Bad Reputation (1992), Glorious Results of a Misspent Youth (1984), "Album" (1983), and I Love Rock 'n' Roll (1981). But everything beyond that hasn't been given any attention and is in serious need of refreshing:

The Hit List (which is not a greatest hits collection, it is her covers of various songs) has 10 tracks in the US, 12 tracks in Japan.

Up Your Alley has 11 tracks and no bonus tracks.

Good Music has 10 tracks and no bonus tracks.

And her later albums like Notorious has 10 tracks in the US and 11 in Japan, plus there were some Japanese CD singles with more.

I'd love a domestic release of the Japanese release of Naked too, because even though I have the re-organized US version called Sinner, I'd still like to have Naked.

You all ever see her guest star appearance on Highlander? She was supposed to be a beautiful rock star, and there was even dialogue along the lines of "you're beautiful!" but in fact she looked as if she had the flu or a serious hangover or worse. It was awkward! But at least she became part of the Highlander rock-star history -- joining others like Roger Daltry and Sheena Easton (both of whom played immortals). Ah, the 90s. Such a difficult time.

Unrelated to that, there were some nics pics of her on FarmSanctuary but they took them down after awhile.

Turns out 1981 was the high point of her career. The later albums were never as good.

The last one I bought (on LP) was Glorious Results Of A Misspent Youth. The only one I own on CD is the old Blackheart issue of I Love Rock 'N Roll. Still waiting for a good, comprehensive Jett comp with all the original versions on it.

I thought Sinner was very good, and more personal than her earlier albums -- without being overproduced like Notorious arguably was. On Sinner (and the earlier version, Naked) she's not just singing about sex and gender, she's singing about herself, which isn't something that she did much in the rock anthem days. It's a brave album and worth checking in on, if you haven't yet. It sells for cheap.

Flashback is a good odds & sods comp, with b-sides, soundtrack songs, live tracks and stuff. It's been issued at least twice with slightly different track listings.

Oops, sorry I meant Blackheart Records -- and I was even looking right at it!

I always thought Album was a stronger LP than I Love Rock 'n' Roll, especially the three singles: "Fake Friends", "Everyday People" (hilarious video), and "The French Song".

"Do You Wanna Touch Me" was a massive hit on LI back in those days. The other big hit? "I Love Rock N Roll" obviously. She was the Queen Of Rock for awhile.

Well, geez, "Crimson And Clover" was Top 10 as was "I Hate Myself For Loving You" confusing used for Sunday Night Football every week, and "Little Liar" went Top 20, plus the aforementioned "Everyday People" and "Fake Friends" were hits, unless you're only speaking of Long Island, although I'd have to believe these others were hits there. "Dirty Deeds" was a Top 40 hit in 1990. From 1981-1990 Joan did very very well. And, she's from Philly!
So many of her hits including "I Love Rock N' Roll" and Springsteen's "Light Of Day" from the horrid movie of the same name were covers but she was great and an MTV staple.

Thanks for the tip! Wikipedia explains that the 20 track version is actually better than the 22 track version, because the songs that were deleted from the 22 track version ended up as bonus tracks on the early albums. So I'll be on the lookout for the 20 track version.

On a related note, do you know why there's 2 cover arts for Fit To Be Tied? One has her as a blonde, one has her as a brunette.

And re MTV, I still remember the video for Do You Wanna Touch Me There, with her in big boxing gloves jumping up in slow motion on a dusky orange background.

I wondered about that too. I guess someone in marketing, in their infinite wisdom nine years AFTER the CD was first released, didn't think people would recognize her as a blonde, so they switched the photo? :o

What bugs me about Fit To Be Tied is the original hit versions of "I Hate Myself For Loving You" and "Little Liar" were substituted with alternate versions. Grrrr.

WOW! Are some of the songs rare, or just the packaging?

I bought this years ago at Circuit City. Unfortunately, it too has the alternate versions of "I Hate Myself For Loving You" and "Little Liar".
