At the end of 2006, JANE'S ADDICTION released its first-ever greatest-hits album, titled "Up From the Catacombs - The Best of Jane's Addiction", and according to the band's drummer, Stephen Perkins, who controls the "JANE'S ADDICTION audio vault," that was just the beginning of a three-part package the band plans on releasing for their fans.

"Well that was the beginning," he said. "It's a three-tier package. That's the first record. Later this year in 2008 there's going to be a box set with a bunch of unreleased weird things; really, a lot of it's coming from my home collection, and a lot of cool DVD stuff. We're going to take 'Soul Kiss' and 'Gift' and other things and put a DVD out. So, it's a whole, it's like a three-tier project. So, the first one, 'Up from the Catacombs', was real simple picking those tunes, they're just like the staples of JANE'S. The next two projects I think it's going to be a little more fun finding the odd stuff. Even if it wasn't mixed right or if it's not a great visual but it's something cool, I think it's going to go in."

Wow-this looks tremendous. I'll have to hit up my friend at Rhino as I have virtually no money, but he's been getting fewer and fewer promos and discounts on stuff. I'm sure this shit-tastic economy might have something to do with that. I'll find a way to get this somehow.
I hope this includes their cover of the Grateful Dead's "Ripple" which was on the Dedicated tribute CD and their cover of the Stones' "Sympathy For The Devil" from the Alien Nation soundtrack among other things.

I wonder if "Gift" will ever be on DVD.....?????? M.

In the first post in this thread, Stephen Perkins specifically mentions the release of Gift on DVD; it may very well be included in this box set.

Wow-pretty disappointing. A bunch of demos and live tracks. I might not even bother with this, but it is still intriguing. "Ripple" made it, but "Sympathy For The Devil" did not. Lame. Also, nothing from the later years, and they could've included the MTV "Live From The 10 Spot" show on Halloween 1997 ( I have that, but I'm sure they played more than what was showed). Reallt not sure about this now, but it's definitely not a priority.

I'm a pretty big fan (I'm seeing them this summer), but this is really just a lot of outtakes and live cuts. I agree it's steep. Cool packaging, but I'm skipping this one, and 4 more live cuts won't change that.

BTW, I've already started seeing this packaged in a cardboard slipcase, rather than the wooden box pictured above. Must really be a limited edition.
