So, they'll celebrate the 30th anniversary for the album on their site, but where is the remastered version already????? :o :o

Sony's Legacy imprint has a nasty habit of remastering some releases from a band's catalogue and neglecting others (Heart, Santana, etc). You'd think after the recent restoration and reissue of Two For The Show, they'd do this one, but alas... :sigh:

And it's the last one to get the remastering done to it...

I'm not expecting anything beyond Drastic Measures to get the treatment, but you would think the last album during the classic years would get done.

I think that Monolith wasn't reissued on CD at all until the 90s (in the US, anyway). Doesn't mean they couldn't give it an overhaul, but I wouldn't bet on it.

What a cruel tease indeed. If anything was up with the album, I'm sure they would have mentioned it. Bummer. I still regret missing out on "Vinyl Confessions" and "Drastic Measures" which are now OOP and go for some $$$.
I still hope the excellent MCA albums "Power" and "In The Spirit Of Things" get taken care of by somebody. They're now owned by Geffen.

VC and DM I got back in 1996 upon relase...that I was glad I got. I always liked Power and finally got ITSOT recently and it is a great album. I still need to get Freaks of Nature.

Actually, they're owned by Universal Music. Geffen is just one of their label imprints. For some reason, they did away with the MCA label and "Geffen" has become the label for MCA catalog stuff. Makes no sense to me, but then again, that's the recording industry.

I gave up awhile back and sprung for the Japanese mini-sleeve remaster. Expensive but I loved that record and I was tired of waiting. Robbie Steinhardt, the violinist and vocalist shops the same indie as I and I provided him a copy. He said it was ages since he heard the album and welcomed the opportunity to hear again.

I was surprised at how much I liked Freaks Of Nature when it came out. After the horrendous Live At The Whisky, with Walsh's vocal cords sounding like shredded meat, I wasn't expecting him to sound so much better on their next release.

I don't dislike Power, but I do find it a bit spotty. I agree that ITSOT is great.

I haven't picked up any of the remastered early albums (self-titled through POKR) yet -- are they noticeably improved over the original CDs?

You haven't lived until you've been subjected to ye olde waveform analysis to prove your ears are 'wrong'. :sigh:

Over on the Hoffman board, whenever they want to prove the superiority/inferiority of a remaster, they post waveforms of the original CD vs. the remaster, usually to demonstrate how loud and compressed the remaster is.

Click for full size

Sorry Mark, I forget that not everyone here posts over at the Hoffman board.
