I think it's a great idea with these new budget boxes of five albums, and I'll definitely get this one!

Hey Linda, what is the deal (or lack thereof) on some of Amazon's prices lately in the US?
Even with the pound at two bucks and the higher shipping charges, you can easly save 40 percent or more on this and other titles by buying them direct from Amazon UK.

Here's five of the finest country-rock albums ever recorded. A great package, i'd jump right on it if i didn't already have all of the original U.S. releases of these.

One thing that perplexes me about the Poco catalog is that Sony Japan, with all of the other artisits they've released in the mini LP sleeve format, they have never done the Poco Epic albums. Would love to have the "Pickin' Up the Pieces", "Deliverin'", "From the Inside" and "Good Feelin' To Know" LP covers in that format with the gatefolds and GFTK insert sheet. Oh well, dream on....

Are these even remastered, or is it just repackaged releases?

Amazon USA's prices tend to drop drastically on imports as they get closer to the arrival date. Not for all titles, but for a great many of them. That said, I agree with you about Amazon UK ... been buying my imports directly from them for about a year now (thanks for the advice, DanO! :)) and have saved a fortune. And that's why I try to add a direct link to Amazon UK's listing for every import.

They ship surprisingly fast as well, some packages get to me as quickly as from Amazon USA.

Agree completely about Amazon UK. Have been buying from them for several years and never had any issues. Probably one of every three CDs I buy anymore comes from the UK.

Yeah, hard to beat 12 pounds vs. $47. VAT subtraction usually offsets shipping with amazon.co.uk so you get it for about the cost to convert pounds to dollars.
I only have the greatest hits, so could definitely see picking this up...

i know it is a lot of music, but for those of you who have little or no poco, you deserve to pleasure yourself with their music.

a very, very, underrated and underappreciated band, in every incarnation.

definite victims of many label changes, bad promotion, and basically an overall misconception of their music. they are much more than a country-rock band.

I've still only got the 2CD with the Buffalo cover and the Epic Best of, the catalog is so big it's daunting. That's why I welcome any money saving move like this one.

Considering that this is part of a large "themed" reissue campaign in the U.K., I highly doubt that it is remastered. It will also probably lack the kind of liner notes that came with the individual releases.

So, I'm ready to dive into the Poco catalog. For the first batch of albums, what do I go with: the box at the top of this thread, the BGO two-fers, or the individual domestic releases (now available as budget reissues)?

ven,

my poco collection is all the originals, but i have never really had a bad BGO CD so i think those will be fine. try to get them all, as each one has something special about it. you might think, that will the constant line-up shuffling, they would be consistent, but i think you will be very pleasantly surprised.

i just counted 22 CD's including "the forgotten trail" ( a 2CD set) which has some nice early rarities on it.

"cantamos" was the hard one to get for a long time, but it is now available at wounded bird.

any questions i can answer i will and if not todd (tsmithpage) surely can, as he knows a hell of a lot more than i do about poco.

The problem is, it's actually cheaper for me to get the individual titles -- they're about $5-$6 apiece, as compared to $15-$18 for the BGO two-fers. I'd get the BGOs if they're noticeably better in sound or packaging, though. If anyone could offer some comparisons for me, I'd appreciate it.

But of course, my friend...I'm a completist! :ohyes:

If you'll scroll up, you'll see I'm no Poco expert (although I did acquire the set that is the subject of this thread). I've always assumed Renny is the foremost Poco fan here at ICE. Now, Nat King Cole, I have a few of his CDs...:)

Hey Renny, don't some of the CBS CDs have bonus tracks? I thought for sure the first album does. Are they one the BGOs?

by the way, there is also a poco one-off on the "fast times at ridgemont high" soundtrack.

In terms of the sound quality, the booklets/artwork, or both?

It looks like that bonus track is on the 5CD box above, but not on the BGO two-fer.

But he says you're the expert! :ohyes:

I wish there were a fan site that compared and contrasted the various releases, but I haven't found one.

ven,

i can only give my opinion, but i like having the individual CD's. my two-fer of "ghost town/inamorarta" was the only way to get them at the time

i wonder why they skipped "deliverin" on the 5CD set, it is a very good live album for as old as it is.

starting with "crazy eyes" each album is quite different from the next almost all the way through the catalog.

a very interesting and a very good band.

renny

the gold "legend" is worth seeking out if you can find it.
