2008 release. Having issued two LPs as The Staccatos, Ottawa, Canada's Five Man Electrical Band launched onto the scene in 1968 with this criminally underrated, psychedelically tinged Pop gem. Reminiscent of The Beatles, The Beach Boys, Buffalo Springfield and other like-minded bands, Five Man Electrical Band developed into one of Canada's best-known groups, and their Capitol 45 of 'Half Past Midnight' sold over 25,000 copies in Canada alone! This first-ever CD issue of their long-out-of-print Capitol LP is supplemented by rare Staccatos 45s, none of which have ever been issued on CD. The 16-page colour booklet also includes rare, unpublished photos and comprehensive liner notes that feature the participation of original band members. 20 tracks. Now Sounds.

1. Five Man Electrical Band - Five Man Electrical Band
2. Last Time I Saw Memphis - Five Man Electrical Band
3. Private Train - Five Man Electrical Band
4. Half Past Midnight - Five Man Electrical Band
5. You're Gonna Lose That Girl - Five Man Electrical Band
6. Maple Lane - Five Man Electrical Band
7. Black Sheep Of The Family - Five Man Electrical Band

9. We Go Together Well - Five Man Electrical Band
10. Didn't Know The Time - Five Man Electrical Band
11. Running Back - Five Man Electrical Band

17. Super Girl - Staccatos
18. She Fancies Herself A Lady - Staccatos

I only know them by name, so this should be interesting to sample.

The 5 Man Electrical Band weren't even a blip on the UK charts, while in the US they had 5 songs reach the Hot 100 (although none of them are on this CD). Yet this reissue will only be available as an import over here. Feh.

I recommend their Canadian Greatest Hits CD "Absolutely Right". Nice sounding CD and it has the hits.

So true, you have to have "Signs".

I think Now Sounds is a new imprint of the Cherry Red family, and if that's the case the sound will be good.

One of the reviewers on amazon in reviewing the Best of cd complains about the sound and the cd was released 12 years ago, so I'll hold out for a re-issue of their Signs lp.

Googa's absolutely right -- Now Sounds is (yet another!) Cherry Red imprint, and I haven't been disappointed by their output yet. Besides the Electrical Band, they've released discs from Tina Mason, the Tuneful Trolley, Colours and the Parade. I also highly recommend their forthcoming reissue of the previously Japan-only ROGER NICHOLS & THE SMALL CIRCLE OF FRIENDS - FULL CIRCLE. (They're apparently supplementing the Japanese disc with 5 Nichols demos from the 60s.) If any Small Circle fans haven't heard this reunion album, they're in for a treat...their harmonies haven't diminished one bit in 40 years!

Added by Linda ~ details about the Roger Nichols reissue can be found here:
