Here's one we missed. By far the best of their 3 (I consider this one essential) to the best of my knowledge the only cd version ever issued is the out of print & mediocre sounding edition on the German Line label. This one's on BGO & should be good quality. As per lately, us Americans are getting SCREWED on the exchange rate but...... [bigred]Matthews Southern Comfort: Later That Same Year[/bigred] 2008 digitally remastered reissue of the third and final album Matthews Southern Comfort, originally released in 1970. Ian Matthews then pursued a long and successful solo career while Southern Comfort (the name the band continued with after Matthews left) produced two albums before folding. 15 tracks. BGO. Later That Same Year: To Love And Me Tell Me Why Jonah My Lady And When She Smiles Mare Take Me Home Sylvie Brand New Tennessee Waltz For Melanie Road To Ronderlin Bonus Tracks: Woodstock The Struggle Parting Scion Amazon USA:http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00175G6RS/?tag=imwan-20Amazon UK:http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00175G6RS/?tag=imwan-21 All new and future Beat Goes On releases at Amazon USAAll new and future Beat Goes On releases at Amazon UK

I have the Line Records CD, and it doesn't sound bad, but I'll be getting this. Four bonus tracks AND remastered. I agree that this is the best of the three MSC albums; I've loved this album since the early 70's. I also have a ton of his solo albums, and have seen him live several times in Austin TX.

The Matthews album ended up being released a week later in the UK, on June 9th. (It's been rescheduled for July 8th as an import at Amazon USA.) Comes housed in a slipcase and features new liner notes. BGO. Disc: 1 1. My Baby Says She's Gonna Leave Me 2. Hey Joe 3. Home Is Where I Lost Her 4. Rodney's Song 5. That's What I Am Here For 6. Roy's Bluz 7. Voices 8. Please Don't Turn Me Away 9. Nephesh Disc: 2 1. I'm A Ram 2. In The Beginning 3. C.C. Rider 4. Country Preacher 5. You're Killing My Love 6. She Can't Say No 7. Thanks for the bump. I'd forgotten about this one (MSC) & I want it.

Be warned: I got the MSC "remaster" yesterday. They used a dreadful master tape. Several songs have significant tape drop out, & in general the sound quality muffled, almost like they used a cassette as a master. This is the first time I've ever said this, but the out of print Line (Germany) cd sounds much better.
Iain stated in his Yahoo group that he had nothing to do with this reissue.

I've had the remaster for a couple of months; I did have to boost the high frequencies on my stereo to get the sound right (nothing unusual there; I do a lot of EQ tweaking on CD's), but I sure didn't notice any dropouts. I haven't listened to the whole album yet; can you tell me where these dropouts are? I'm keeping my original Line CD anyway; I learned my lesson selling original issue CD's long ago.

4 or 5 tracks have them. Mare Take Me Home sticks in my mind as one of them.

I listened to "Mare" and several other tracks last night carefully, and heard no dropouts (I didn't use headphones, which might reveal dropout problems better than speakers). As I mentioned before, I had to boost high frequencies quite a bit (and a bit of bass) to get it to sound right. The only glitch I found was at the very end of "My Lady", and the same glitch is on the Line version. Not a dropout, but the kind of glitch you get when there's something sticky on the reel-to-reel tape (been working in studios since the 70's, so I'm used to that problem on old reel tapes). Try EQ'ing and see if it helps; otherwise, it could be a quality control problem with BGO from one CD copy to the next.

Weird. The drop outs are not subtle. It's definitely in the mastering on my cd.

How about checking the timing readout, and let me know exactly where some of the dropouts are? I was listening late at night, so I couldn't turn the volume up very loud because of the neighbors....
