Product Description
This material has never been re-released anywhere; it’s a semi-known collectors’ label established by the ubiquitous New York music impressario Gerard W Purcell, who used the best black music talent to produce fabulous soul sounds.

Acts such as the Hesitations, Debbie Taylor and the Persians are well known, certainly in the US and also to a cognoscente of soul fans and collectors.

There are two great unreleased tracks from Debbie Taylor and The Hesitations, both of which are George Kerr productions. His productions and Ed Bland’s arrangements are incredible and the mixes sound absolutely fantastic; created in-house with TLC from the original eight track master tapes.

There are more unreleased gems, from lesser known artists such as the Devonnes, the Shaladons and Milton Bennett; all of them great dancers too.

Other major highlights are songs, productions and performances from Larry Banks and Jaibi (of whom Dave Godin was a major fan), and some gorgeous southern soul from Benny Gordon.

All this from a label whose story has never been told before and this glorious package will appeal to soul fans right across the board.

2. The Happiest Girl In The World - Alice Clark

Product Description
Kent presents a second volume from Gerry Purcell's New York-based GWP label.

Purcell made his money through managing major US middle-of-the-road artists like Eddy Arnold and Al Hirt. His entry into the R&B field was largely unsuccessful in terms of hits but he assembled some of the cream of New York talent to create very high quality soul music.

All of the GWP soul releases were of merit, but some of the tapes found in the vaults were exemplary. Unissued dance tracks by Lillie Fields, Larry Banks & Jaibi, Bobby Penn and the Devonnes are already big 100 Club records from advance acetate plays.

The Hesitations' 'Go Away' has had advance play on the modern soul scene from its limited appearance on a 100 Club anniversary single two years ago. Alice Clark's Northern classic 'You Hit Me' was a GWP production and we feature her version of the Plus Four's 'Happiest Girl In The World'.

Benny Gordon contributes three southern soul sides, including a killer version of Maxine Brown's 'All In My Mind', while Little Rose Little gives a powerhouse interpretation of the old standard 'Tennessee Waltz'. If you enjoyed the Larry Banks' Soul Family Album this is a must.

Volume 1 is still available on Kent as well.
