The first link is the self-titled album.
The second link is Tumbleweed Connection.
I hope these get a US release

I hope these see a release too, import or domestic.
Spincds also reported those Joni Mitchell expanded remasters a few years ago that never materialized.
There is no offical mention of these deluxe editionss on Elton's site yet.

I just bought Tumbleweed Connection last year with the bonus "Madman Across the Water" track. Now I wish I'd waited. I may get this anyway and give the other away to my brother.

I bought a couple other Elton John records, too, and Tumbleweed was easily the best of the bunch.

"tumbleweed connection" is probably my favorite elton john album, and i don't think there were any hit singles on it, and it was back in the day of hit singles.

It's weird. Last night, I checked over at CD Universe to see if these were listed yet. They only had Tumbleweed Connection up for listing yet. The price on it put a lump in my throat. I'm really hoping it comes down a bit. Also, myself included, it might help to e-mail them and very gently (I emphasize) tell them that the Elton John-Elton John is included.
If these two really do come out, let's really keep our eyes out for the best price on these two titles, o.k.?
If they continue with these reissues and they keep including BBC material, I'm finally going to be able to unload a couple of underground titles of Elton John that I've had for a long time. I'm really happy to see the extra demos and BBC stuff out in official form.

Correct you are Renny. There were no singles released from the album, although "Country Comfort", and "Burn Down the Mission", of course, received extensive FM airplay, and are the more well known "hits" from it...

Hey Guys,
For about the last two days or so, my brain has been telling me that something isn't quite right about these releases. The stuff that Steve F. said earlier in the thread plus the fact that I've heard that Elton John isn't supposed to be the easiest person to deal with when it comes to his back catalog has me wondering just how legit these two are. These don't appear to be proper Universal or Universal-related releases, do they? I think I'm going to wait until I hear something from official sources on these two. Plus, the price over at CD Universe has not changed yet and it's making my eyes boogaloo out still.

They're the real deal, Steve. Scheduled for February release in Britain via Universal, and the pre-orders are up at Amazon UK with tracklistings now. (See updated first post.)

Linda...

I just looked at the Amazon links in your *updated* first post.
Maybe it's just early but... something's not right.
The "Tumbleweed" Amazon links for both UK and USA say "import" and are "one" disc.
The link for Amazon UK lists "Universal" as the label, but the Amazon USA lists the label as "Phantom Sound & Vision". :o
Amazon USA lists the price for "Tumbleweed" as $59.99...??? Wow! I hope that's not the actual price. :(

The earliest pre-order listings often get the number of discs wrong, as well as the country of origin ~ the tracklisting correctly shows two CDs.

Universal is the manufacturer ~ Phantom is an American wholesaler/distributor which supplies Amazon USA with most of its imports.

Amazon USA's prices on imports sometimes start out sky high and don't flatten out until the release date. The recent Lulu Atco set (see thread here) was also around $60 during the entire pre-order period, then dropped by half after it was released. But the Amazon UK price was pretty reasonable all along (as it is for these Elton pre-orders), which is why I always provide a link to them for Euro imports now. It's often much cheaper to order imports directly from the UK site even with the additional postage costs.

Linda,
I'm grateful for the information you have given. I'm still going to let things play out a bit and keep mulling things over as well. Over the course of the next couple of years, I'm almost beginning to wonder if this is going to be the wave of the future for a lot of backcatalog releases. In other words, we may only be getting some of this stuff as imports from here on out. I hope they become U.S. releases, but the domestic U.S. market is so damned cock-eyed and a mess to figure out nowadays.

One of the reasons the price may seem high is because Phantom is about the most expensive import wholesaler I know of (though I kind of suspect that Amazon gets better pricing then I do!!). Actually, they dropped the name "Phantom" about 2 years back & now call themselves "Super D".

Always seemed odd to me that Amazon doesn't just use themselves (ie amazon.uk) as their own import wholesaler.

Musictap has put in some new news on these two releases. They are reporting that these will come out on Mercury on March 25th. I'm assuming that this means these will be U.S. releases.

Thanks Steve. I have to agree with Renny. "Tumbleweed" is one of the best Elton albums.
This will be preordered!

Wasn't Tumbleweed released as a SACD?

Yes, Tumbleweed, EJ & Madman all were released as SACD hybrids. Goodbye YBR is also available as 3 disc set with 2 SACD hybrid discs & a dvd video.

Yeah John, as noted they are SACD. But with the bonus tracks I going for them again!
Jimboitis I guess! :}

Rick A.

PS. I wish they release the second batch of Elton SACD reissue program, my understanding is that the remixes were completed and submitted.

oh I see, so I can safely pass on these since I don't care about the bonus cuts (just need the album).

btw....Tumbleweed in SACD Surround is an almost religious experience. Sounds beautiful.

I need "Don't Shoot Me I'm The Piano Player" on SACD!!
