One of better known Byrds fan sites is reporting that Sundazed has managed to snag a show of the Byrds from Royal Albert Hall in 1971 for release in May. The specific release date in May has not been determined yet.

Added by Linda ~ the release date has been pushed back to June 17th, at least at Amazon:

From their earliest days as 12-string-wielding folk-rockers, to the thrilling psychedelic excursions of their raga-rock period to their 1968 birthing of country-rock, the Byrds were always accorded a hero's welcome in England. What better place to record founding Byrds member/guitarist/singer Roger McGuinn's new version of the band--featuring fretboard ace Clarence White, bassist Skip Battin and drummer Gene Parsons--than London's Royal Albert Hall!

Rescued from a tape that had sat forgotten in McGuinn's climatized garage for decades, this stellar 1971 set, featuring live versions of the current band's studio faves ("Lover of the Bayou," "Chestnut Mare") as well as adventurous reworkings of Byrds classics ("Mr. Tambourine Man," "My Back Pages," "Eight Miles High," "So You Want to Be a Rock `n' Roll Star") might be the most accurate and stirring live performance yet of the legendary Los Angeles combo. By 1971, the guitar interplay of McGuinn and White had become a jaw-dropping highlight of their live performances, as had their stripped-down, acoustic mini-set and peerless four-part vocal harmonies. As McGuinn, in typically understated fashion, says of this new Sundazed release, available now on both compact disc and as a high-definition vinyl, double-gatefold LP: "It was a great night, so I'm happy there's a record of it!"

I can't wait for this one, as I've totally been in a Byrds mood lately. Also, don't forget to check out the
companion 7 inch as well!

I was going to pre-order this no matter what was on it (I did, btw). But now that I've learned that a live version of "Chestnut Mare" is going to be on this as well is just icing on the cake for me. I am just a huge fan of that song.

Any Non-country Byrds with Clarence White is a must own for me!

ROGER MCGUINN'S PRIVATE BYRDS ARCHIVES TO BE RELEASED

Previously unreleased archive material from The Byrds is shortly to surface for the first time. A recording of the group’s 1971 appearance at London’s Royal Albert Hall – featuring a line up of Roger McGuinn, Clarence White, Skip Battin and Gene Parsons – is to be released in June by Sundazed.

Founder member Roger McGuinn has told uncut.co.uk that the recording came from his private collection – and that more releases of a similar kind would probably follow it.

“We’ve carried these tapes around for 30-something years,” he said. “We just never paid much attention to them. [Sundazed’s] Bob Irwin came down, and he’s a genius at discerning these things. He could look at a box, and go ‘Oh, this is that, and so-and-so was there, this is wonderful.’”

Irwin has taken further tapes from McGuinn, with a view to further releases. “He’s gonna check them out,” said Roger. “There are tentative plans to put out good things we find, but I’m not sure what.”

Though McGuinn’s archive has yielded some delights, Irwin’s investigations have provided one minor disappointment.

Says McGuinn: “He thought he had the only existing recording of the Byrds doing “Milestones” because it said so on the tape box. But when he got it up to his studio and played it back, the track wasn’t there….”

Does anyone have this yet? Or has anyone actually seen it in a b&m? It was supposedly released on May 27 but most online sites indicate that the release date has been moved to June 10.

I searched around for it this past week, but it didn't show up at any of my regular places. Looks like it was delayed.

Mine arrived yesterday in the mail. My copy had a good chunk of the teeth knocked out of the tray which holds the disc.

I pre-ordered it from Amazon at $13.99, and I just got an e-mail saying they're giving me the $9.99 price. It's been shipped.

It was in stock yesterday at J&R, for $14.99. I wish they'd had it last week, when all CDs were on sale.

I had a weird experience. I got an e-mail yesterday telling me that Amazon was having trouble getting the disc, click on the link below if I want them to continue trying to get the disc. I clicked on the link and the page told me there was no problem to adjust. I got an e-mail this morning saying the disc had shipped. Odd.

Got my copy yesterday. It's a very good show. The sound is thin on the bottom end, and the vocals are way out front, but otherwise it's OK. Overall, I prefer Live at the Fillmore West, but this is certainly worth it for any serious Byrds fan. They were a very tight band at this point. And man, could Clarence White play. Good Lord.

Same here.
The music is very good. I saw this tour when I was in college.

Had a chance to listen to this today. It sounds okay, like it was recorded in 1971. It is very clear but a little flat and one-dimensional. Performaces are good, about the same as the performance from Alaska (?) that I have (and for some reason can't find) from the same time.
