The re-mastering of Laurie Anderson's [title]Big Science[/title] still resonates just as deeply as the original. Articulating a dream-like American society amidst social and political anxiety, Anderson's work is both comforting and sinister at the same time.

(Edited tracklisting details based on info from Jimbo's post further down the thread.)

1. From the Air
2. Big Science
3. Sweaters
4. Walking & Falling
5. Born, Never Asked
6. O Superman (For Massenet)
7. Example #22
8. Let X=X
9. It Tanga
10. O Superman [Multimedia Track]
11. Walk the Dog [MP3]

Yay! I hope there are plans to upgrade Mister Heartbreak, Home Of The Brave, and Strange Angels, too. I'm mostly interested in bonus tracks, since the original CDs have always sounded great. I hope this remastering doesn't take a compressed step backward.

I'd really like to see Home of the Brave issued on DVD. One of the best concert movies I've seen.

"Paradise...is exactly like where you are right now--only much, much.....better."

I saw something on her website indicating that there would be a DVD release for "Home of the Brave". As far as the expanded "Big Science", I'll get it simply because I love "Walk The Dog". I have two scratchy vinyl copies of the 12-inch original single, and have been looking for a CD release with that track on it (studio version, not the live one) for a long time.

So I got my copy at 'Rama today, and guess what? "Walk the Dog" is an enhancement-only bonus track. Which means it won't play on regular CD players. Thanks alot!

I was mostly interested in this for the remastering, since there weren't many extra tracks.
How does it sound?

I was able to download it on my computer at work and play it on there. I suppose one could burn it to a CD-r, but honestly, it's not the same...what were they thinking??

Is the remastering on the album worth the upgrade?

Bannings: If you're not nice
Important information from Nonesuch for collectors who purchased the first pressing of this remaster ...

*UPDATE* from Nonesuch Records
The initial run of Laurie Anderson's Big Science reissue on compact disc contained a slight problem in the mastering that has now been resolved. On the 2nd track, "Big Science," the introduction to the song was missing the first of two wolf howls. If you purchased one of the CDs that contains the 'dropped' wolf howl, please return it (disc only!) to:

Nonesuch
Attn: Big Science Reissue Exchange
1290 Ave of the Americas
New York, NY 10104

with a return address, and we will send you the revised version.

Thanks for posting this Linda.
I sent my disc to Nonesuch and they quickly sent my replacement disc (including digipack, which I did not send to them), and a handwritten note from someone named Josh. How cool is that? Much nicer than the experience that D.G. had with the Cheap Trick CD

Can you answer your question for me? I've held off on this because I've had too many bad remaster experiences lately. (And also because I have the original Warner "target" CD and am loathe to replace it.)

I’m not sure. I couldn’t find my copy of it, so when it was re-released I just went ahead and bought it. I’m going to dig around and try to find the original release and report back.

What is this "target" CD you mention?

Back when CDs were very young, Warner's standard, generic disc artwork looked a bit like a target. Some collectors treasure these early pressings, since they represent some of the very first commercially-available CDs.

Looking forward to hearing your opinions on the upgrade.

I borrowed the remaster from the library and it sounds fine to me, but I haven't been able to compare with the original pressing.
