Product Description
2008 digitally remastered edition of this rarely heard album from the man who helped invent Rock 'N' Roll in the late '50s. In 1969 and 1970, the Kama Sutra label put Gene in their newly acquired LA studio with the cream of young session men to produce an album. Taking a cue from The Band, Bob Dylan, The Sir Douglas Quintet, and possibly fellow rocker Dale Hawkins (who had just had an amazing album out himself!) Gene rose to the occasion big-time! Possibly one of the most unexpected and astonishing albums of Roots Rock and Americana is what we have here...with Gene in great form as usual! 21 tracks including 'Sunshine', '500 Miles', 'A Million Shades Of Blue' and more. Rev-Ola.

Gene Vincent never got the credit he deserves . Very ahead of his time as was his guitar player Cliff Gallup . Just listen to Cliff's playing on the first 2 Gene Vincent albums , that kinda stuff wasn't done back in 1956/57 . In my opinion (and tens of millions of people will say I'm crazy) , but Gene and the Blue Caps were better and should've been bigger than Elvis and his band.
It's about time these 2 albums were upgraded , lonnng overdue . Buy them and enjoy , I'm gonna.

Bigger than Elvis - maybe not but very very very under-rated and forgotten. He should have been at remembered at least as big as Buddy Holly...both Him and his friend Eddie Cochran. I think he was too rough for the US market so the powers that be made sure he didn'tmake it.

Not a big deal, but there have been at least two earlier twofers of this material (I dumped mine when the Bear Family box came out).

And the albums weren't recorded at Kama Sutra's studios -- whereever they may have been -- but at the Record Plant and (the second) at Crystal Sound; both in Hollywood.

Three members of the Sir Douglas Quintet (though not Doug) plus some ringers played on the first; the second was all L.A. studio guys. The first is a lot looser sounding, which some people (including me) like more than others do.

(I'm sorry -- not the Record Plant, but at the Sound Factory. Dave Hassinger engineered).

I'm only aware of the See For Miles twofer and another twofer which paired a Bill Haley album with one of the albums.
