It's a good combination. The actual two-disc set is sort of pop song oriented. Not many of the hits (some though) but all the songs are very well-played. There are 17 songs or interludes on the second disc so that should tell you there is not much stretching out. The nasty funky longer stuff comes on the third disc - the "Aftershow." The set as a whole gives a good sense of Prince's range.
I'll vouch for the quality of Prince's "One Nite Alone...Live!". There's a good mix of uptempo and downtempo songs and they are all played very well. Many of the songs on the first two discs come from "The Rainbow Children" CD which came out in the fall of 2001 (and a couple of songs which hasn't appeared on any Prince CD to date; "Xenophobia" and "Avalanche"). The jams on the third disc are all great too (think of it as the "Party after the concert" that Prince has become known for). If the price of the set is a problem, try getting it from one of Amazon's Z-Shops or from Half.Com.
