http://www.nme.com/news/morrissey/31833 Hear new Morrissey track online now
Oct 16, 2007
A new Morrissey track, 'All You Need Is Me', has appeared online.
The song was premiered on US chat show 'Last Call With Carson Daly' on October 10.
The glam rock-influenced tune - complete with the memorable lyric "I was a small fat child in a welfare house" - was introduced by host Daly as the "first time on network television" the track had been performed.
According to True-to-you.net, another new track, 'That's How People Grow Up', will be broadcast at a later date.
Morrissey's Carson Daly appearance was pulled from YouTube, but here's a performance of "All You Need Is Me" from Jools Holland's Later: [youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PEpwDOGK4TI[/youtube] And that song is one of the two new studio tracks on Mozza's forthcoming [lilred]Greatest Hits[/lilred] collection: Notorious and influential former Smiths frontman Steven Patrick Morrissey's solo material has always divided opinion, but his Greatest Hits nonetheless compiles the highlights from his extensive back catalogue. Cuts from the acclaimed debut 'Viva Hate' all the way up to 2006's 'Ringleader Of The Tormentors' are present, with hit singles such as 'First Of The Gang To Die' and the classic 'Every Day Is Like Sunday' included. This release also contains two new songs, of which one ('That's How People Grow Up') sees release as a single. [bigred]Standard Edition[/bigred] 1. First Of The Gang To Die 2. In The Future When All's Well 3. I Just Want To See The Boy Happy 4. Irish Blood, English Heart 5. You Have Killed Me 6. That's How People Grow Up [NEW] 7. Everyday Is Like Sunday 8. Redondo Beach 9. If that tracklisting is spot on, I'll be getting the new tracks but not the compilation itself.. Far too 2000+ based for my liking, & the lack of tracks from his best 2 albums ('Vauxhall & I' and 'Your Arsenal') plus the "usual suspects" from before (there's only so many times Every Day Is Like Sunday & Suedehead can appear on ones' iPod) make this yet ANOTHER odd & lacking Moz compilation!

If the older songs are live versions as I suspect they are, then there are NO songs from pre 20004 comeback at all. So it's a "best of" from Quarry and Ringleader! Reissue, repackage, repackage Reevaluate the songs Double pack with a photograph Extra track and a tacky badge. and Buy both and feel deceived.

There's already a plethora of compilations covering Morrissey's earlier work for EMI (Sire in the US). I should know, I bought most of 'em. At least one straight "best-of" per territory, plus several collections that mix singles, b-sides, and album tracks.
Bona Drag World of Morrissey Suedehead: The Best of Morrissey My Early Burglary Years The Best of Morrissey CD Singles Boxes (Vol. 1 and Vol. 2)
I wonder if "Redondo Beach" (a cover of the Patti Smith song) is from the excellent Live at Earls Court album, or a previously-unreleased studio take.

I don't think he recorded a studio version, Robbie. I know there's loads of pre-comeback Mozzer compilations out there, Jimbo, what I was finding humorous is this is a "best of" from only two albums and some B-sides. Not exactly a large body of work to pool a comp from!

MORRISSEY has become one of those artists that repackages his hits over and over again.

And the first single from the album, "That's How People Grow Up", has been released in the UK: UK two track CD pressing of this new track from the former Smiths frontman. One of two new songs to be included on the 2008 Greatest Hits collection, 'That’s How People Grow Up' was recorded in Houston, Texas with Jerry Finn, producer of 2004’s widely acclaimed You Are The Quarry album. Features 'That's How People Grow Up' plus a live version of 'The Last Of The International Playboys'. Polydor. 1. That's How People Grow Up 2. Last Of The Famous International Playboys (Live) Amazon USA:http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00127ITLC/?tag=imwan-20Amazon UK:http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00127ITLC/?tag=imwan-21

Now here comes the CD single for the other new studio track from Mozza's greatest hits collection: UK two track CD pressing of this single, one of two 'new' tracks featured on his 2008 Greatest Hits collection. 'All You Need Is Me' is among a handful of new songs to have graced Morrissey's set list over shows in recent months. Features 'All You Need Is Me' and the non-album track 'Children In Pieces'. Universal. 2008. 1. All You Need Is Me 2. Children In Pieces Amazon USA:http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0017QKH18/?tag=imwan-20Amazon UK:http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0017QKH18/?tag=imwan-21

I finally got my copy of the 2-CD deluxe edition from 'Rama. For the US version, at least, Decca has licensed original recordings of the early hits from Sire, they're not live remakes. "Redondo Beach" is live, but apparently reached the UK Top 10 when issued as a single.
An insert directs one to Morrisseydirect.com for info about "a very special Morrissey release, available exclusively online for a limited time period, made to order" but there are no details posted yet. Whatever it is, I want one!

Whatever it is, I want one! I signed up for information*. When I did so, it gave me a link to a free download of First of the Gang to Die - Live at the Pearl Theatre. *my bet is it's just a live compilation or a proper concert.
