Hear new Morrissey track online now

Oct 16, 2007

A new Morrissey track, 'All You Need Is Me', has appeared online.

The song was premiered on US chat show 'Last Call With Carson Daly' on October 10.

The glam rock-influenced tune - complete with the memorable lyric "I was a small fat child in a welfare house" - was introduced by host Daly as the "first time on network television" the track had been performed.

According to True-to-you.net, another new track, 'That's How People Grow Up', will be broadcast at a later date.

Morrissey's Carson Daly appearance was pulled from YouTube, but here's a performance of "All You Need Is Me" from Jools Holland's Later:

And that song is one of the two new studio tracks on Mozza's forthcoming [lilred]Greatest Hits[/lilred] collection:

Notorious and influential former Smiths frontman Steven Patrick Morrissey's solo material has always divided opinion, but his Greatest Hits nonetheless compiles the highlights from his extensive back catalogue. Cuts from the acclaimed debut 'Viva Hate' all the way up to 2006's 'Ringleader Of The Tormentors' are present, with hit singles such as 'First Of The Gang To Die' and the classic 'Every Day Is Like Sunday' included. This release also contains two new songs, of which one ('That's How People Grow Up') sees release as a single.

If that tracklisting is spot on, I'll be getting the new tracks but not the compilation itself.. Far too 2000+ based for my liking, & the lack of tracks from his best 2 albums ('Vauxhall & I' and 'Your Arsenal') plus the "usual suspects" from before (there's only so many times Every Day Is Like Sunday & Suedehead can appear on ones' iPod) make this yet ANOTHER odd & lacking Moz compilation! :ohyes:

If the older songs are live versions as I suspect they are, then there are NO songs from pre 20004 comeback at all. So it's a "best of" from Quarry and Ringleader!
Reissue, repackage, repackage
Reevaluate the songs
Double pack with a photograph
Extra track and a tacky badge.

and
Buy both and feel deceived. :sigh:

There's already a plethora of compilations covering Morrissey's earlier work for EMI (Sire in the US). I should know, I bought most of 'em. At least one straight "best-of" per territory, plus several collections that mix singles, b-sides, and album tracks.

Bona Drag
World of Morrissey
Suedehead: The Best of Morrissey
My Early Burglary Years
The Best of Morrissey
CD Singles Boxes (Vol. 1 and Vol. 2)

I wonder if "Redondo Beach" (a cover of the Patti Smith song) is from the excellent Live at Earls Court album, or a previously-unreleased studio take.

I don't think he recorded a studio version, Robbie.
I know there's loads of pre-comeback Mozzer compilations out there, Jimbo, what I was finding humorous is this is a "best of" from only two albums and some B-sides. Not exactly a large body of work to pool a comp from! :)

MORRISSEY has become one of those artists that repackages his hits over and over again.

I finally got my copy of the 2-CD deluxe edition from 'Rama. For the US version, at least, Decca has licensed original recordings of the early hits from Sire, they're not live remakes. "Redondo Beach" is live, but apparently reached the UK Top 10 when issued as a single.

An insert directs one to Morrisseydirect.com for info about "a very special Morrissey release, available exclusively online for a limited time period, made to order" but there are no details posted yet. Whatever it is, I want one!

I signed up for information*. When I did so, it gave me a link to a free download of First of the Gang to Die - Live at the Pearl Theatre.

*my bet is it's just a live compilation or a proper concert.
