Wounded Bird does a good job of getting those albums that not a lot of people bought, but the fans really liked or wanted. Example, the Tom Johnston albums are sought out by Doobie fans, yet few beyond that fanbase have interest in them.

WB may do a good job of getting old, more obscure titles out, but their quality leaves a lot to be desired. I have yet to hear a Wounded Bird release that sounds as good as the original vinyl one.

Their quality does differ greatly from release to release...but I think they just do a straight transfer from whatever they get from the record company's vaults. What generation that might be is anyone's guess. I just wish they'd be a little more forthcoming about mastering info in their credits and on their website.

Agreed. The thing that used to tick me off about them were their snooty responses to questions about quality. I once asked them if a certain release was remastered and their response was "It depends on what you mean by remastered!".

If I wanted crap quality, I could always buy MP3s! Oh well. I will pass on any Wounded Bird releases and wait for another company to do a proper job with the recordings.

I wouldn't be too hard on Wounded Bird. Every WB disc I've listened to (and I've bought quite a few) has sounded decent -- maybe not great, but decent -- and at least they're bothering to give us albums that otherwise would never see a CD release. They may be flat transfers, but that's better than a botched remastering job, which we see all too frequently. Could they do a better job? Sure, but I'd hardly call their efforts "crap." I think the small reissue labels should be encouraged as much as possible, especially in these days of declining CD sales.

I sure didn't mind seeing the long lost Danny O'Keefe albums from the 70's come out on WB.
Maybe not one word or note of extra stuff, but I ain't complaining.
Half the time, the extra stuff ain't worth diddly anyways.
