One of my all-time favorite albums ("my" AJA, among other things), I would agree to purchase it for the 4th time: is the SACD a real improvement over the last remasters?
Thanks

In a word, yes.

You don't say whether or not you are listening in surround. If you are, this is a no-brainer. Gaucho SACD is one of the best surround mixes that's been done.

You got me to searching for the SACD and found that there are DTS and DVD-A versions, as well. Any thoughts on those mixes and their overall sound quality??

Thanks, Lar

The DTS version is very good too if you don't have an SACD player.

The DVD-A is one of those that has software beyond the abilities of some early players. I know I had to return a copy that I bought to A-B: SACD to DVD-A in my home.

I wish I could post a link or at least give a magazine title and month, but one audio magazine comparing the 2 formats (SACD to DVD-A) used Gaucho as one of their examples. They preferred the SACD.

Do you mean that my CD/DVD player can't read this one? I don't know much about SACD technology, except for the reissues of German band CAN, all of them are playable on my standard cd/dvd players: is that because they're "hybrid SACD"
Maybe it's not the case with Gaucho?

Also, do you know why the rest of SD's catalogue hasnt been given the same upgraded treament (and I'm not even discussing the lack of bonus / deluxe editions when they remastered their complete catalogue back in 2000).

If your DVD player is DTS compatible....most are...then you can play the DTS version.

Yes Iceman, the reason you can play them is that they are hybrid. You are able to play the CD layer only. The SACD, hi-rez layer would require a SACD capability.
