I didn't think Musictap would even have a report today considering that it's the MLK Holiday. Surprisingly, a new one is up and they are reporting that Geffen/UME will have another reissue of Lynyrd Skynyrd's great album Street Survivors. That's all they have said so far. There's no word yet on if it will be a Deluxe Edition or not. If they expand it, could they possibly put on a show from the last tour from before Ronnie and Steve were killed in the plane crash-perhaps the Stone Pony show from '77? I'm in for it if it goes beyond the really nice one which is already out and was the last reaissue from a while back.

Added by Linda ~ yes, it is a Deluxe Edition. :)

They'd have to offer a live CD or some more unreleased tracks to make a repurchase of this worthwhile. Like you said Steve, the previous remaster is quite nice and has some unreleased tracks. Unless they can come up with that Stone Pony gig - I believe some video exists for it so possibly there's audio - I can't see buying this one again.

"Georgia Peaches" wuz a nice outtake. Remaster sounded great to me, so this needs some added value. I'm betting on a Deluxe Edition.

Today's Musictap reports that the new Deluxe Edition will contain the original mixes of the album from 5 months before it was released, a never before heard version of "That Smell" as well as 5 unreleased '77 show cuts as well. March 5th is beginning to shape up quite nicely.

I believe there are still some Street Survivor outtakes (or ones from that era) floating around on various compilations that weren't put on the remastered/expanded version of Street Survivors. "Gotta Go" from Best Of The Rest is one such outtake.

from musictap--
We had previously mentioned the upcoming Ume Deluxe Edition of Street Survivors (1977) by Lynyrd Skynyrd, which was the last release by the original lineup before their tragic plane crash, which claimed the lives of several members of the band. This album will be remastered, and contain the first, original version of the album recorded 5 months before the actual release. This includes unreleased mixes of “What’s Your Name,” “You’ve Got That Right,” as well as a completely unheard cut of “That Smell.” In addition, there will be 5 previously unreleased live recordings from August of 1977. Other bonuses include not only the Criteria Studios recording, but also a demo of the song, “Sweet Little Missy.” There’s a lot to love here and we’re sure NOT going to miss it. This Deluxe Edition from Geffen Records, which will feature the original Flames cover, will be reissued on March 4.

Street Survivors 30th Anniversary CD Set
Ronnie Van Zant considered Street Survivors Lynyrd Skynyrd’s greatest achievement. A year in the making, the album was recorded twice. Now, on the two-CD Street Survivors - Deluxe Edition - 30th Anniversary (Geffen/UMe), released March 4, 2008, the previously unreleased first version debuts alongside the incendiary final studio album from the original Lynyrd Skynyrd issued in 1977.

The package also features the never-before-issued last known recordings of the band, five songs performed live at a Fresno, CA concert less than two months before the group’s famously tragic plane crash.
By 1977, the Jacksonville, FL band--singer Van Zant, guitarists Allen Collins and Gary Rossington, keyboardist Billy Powell, bassist Leon Wilkeson, and drummer Artimus Pyle--had scored four hit albums and become one of America’s top concert draws. There was a new member, guitarist Steve Gaines, and the group could take its time with a new album. The first version was recorded at Miami’s Criteria Studios in winter 1976 and spring 1977 with renowned producer Tom Dowd. But, dissatisfied with the results, Skynyrd returned that summer to Studio One in Atlanta, where “Free Bird” and “Sweet Home Alabama” had been recorded, and produced the released version themselves.

On Street Survivors - Deluxe Edition - 30th Anniversary, both versions are heard of “You Got That Right,” “I Never Dreamed” and “Ain’t No Good Life” (the original with background vocals by the Honkettes); three versions of “That Smell” (including a never-before-heard extended guitar jam); a previously unreleased “What’s Your Name,” and a song dropped from the album, “Sweet Little Missy,” as a demo and a master of the also axed “Georgia Peaches.” Replacing the two two deleted songs were “One More Time,” a newly overdubbed track from six years earlier, and Merle Haggard’s “Honky Tonk Night Time Man.” A Deluxe Edition bonus is Van Zant’s autobiographical rewrite titled “Jacksonville Kid,” the last song he wrote and recorded.

Street Survivors, the most anticipated Skynyrd album to date, shipped 500,000+ units, instantly earning gold status. But on October 20th, three days after its release, the band’s tour plane ran out of gas and crashed into a Mississippi forest, killing Van Zant, Gaines, his singer sister Cassie, and their road manager, while seriously injuring the other bandmembers. Even as the album reached double platinum and scored a Top 10 hit in “What’s Your Name,” the survivors were devastated.

But Street Survivors, one of the classic albums of Southern Rock, was aptly named.

This looks like a great set, but I'll wait until I see it cheap or on one of BMG's sales, so I can get it at a reasonable price.

I never knew their last gig was down in Fresno. Holy cow! Being in Santa Clara at the time, I was only about 100 miles north of there.

I just got this. It's killer to hear some new stuff. "Jacksonville Kid", set to "Honky Tonk Night Time Man" is the best.

WARNING: The concert is bootleg quality & a fairly poor bootleg at that. It sounds like an audie to me. On the other hand, I think I prefer the alternate version of the album to the regular version.

I managed to find a used copy of the original "flames cover" vinyl LP with the original two inserts (credits/tour dates and merchandise order form/survey). I was surprised to see the last two dates of the tour were to be in Honolulu, Hawaii.

I remember when that cover on LP was worth a FORTUNE!

Hi Dirt Rebel,
Thanks for pointing that out to me. I wasn't quite certain.

I held off on getting this because I had most of it on the last remaster on it . Sweet Missy , Jacksonville Kid etc and most of the reviews I read complained about the live recordings . Well I saw it was on sale at bestbuy.com for $19.99 with free shipping so I said what the hell . I got it a few days ago and I gotta say , I'm more pleased that I thought i'd be. Yes the live recordings are bootleg quality but their not terribly bad .I do like the original album recordings , I think the ones chosen for the album are better but they are great alternate versions . I dont think I would have been as happy if I paid full price plus shipping , but at 20 bucks it's worth it.

I got this last week from BMG and my sentiments pretty much echo Don's. As far as the live stuff goes, I've heard far worse in terms of bootleg quality. And the alternate studio stuff is a little less polished, but I don't think it would have ruined their career as engineer Kevin Elson said. I paid $11, so no complaints here, either.
